Damn, I want to love this game so much, but I just can't possibly get to a hardcore or tournament style game. I loved the video for what it was, but as for actually playing the game, I think I'll pass.

The Zerg creep looks awesome. This game looks awesome. I hope the single player campaign is as stellar as I would expect from Blizzard.

I dunno why people knock on game commentary; it's awesome and exciting.
I think there's just a stigma against it because it's basically people who are excited about games, but there's nothing wrong with that.
It lets the viewer (especially those who don't play competitively) understand exactly what's going on.
Sure, e-sports trying to present itself as "eXtreme!" is pretty lame, but it's always a thrill to watch two people who are good at what they do go at it -- more so if you have someone to root for.

he quits before the other guy wins because that's just proper SC etiquette. No one wants to wait around while all their buildings are destroyed when you can just quit and be done with a game that you've pretty much already lost.

I really love watching videos like this... it's almost like a sport... they should show this shit on ESPN, fuck poker.

anyways, I could never get this good at any rts, which is why i'm never really a big fan of them... it's always fun to watch some skilled players go at it, though.

I really enjoyed this video a whole lot.  Thought the commentators did an excellent job of describing the action and they truly were excited about what was going on within the game.

Can't wait to get my hands on this.

Anyone else find two developers commentating on an RTS in a sportscaster's tone to be a bit ridiculous?

The other battle report they had with David Kim was a lot similar. I wont spoil the game for the people watching next. but the battle's flow went exactly the same for the most part.

I wish these guys who are commentating would slow down and make it a bit nicer to listen to. I don't want to feel like I'm at a horse race.

Wow. Superb game. Really takes me back to the days where I could sit and watch in-game replays in Warcraft 3 for hours. Made me wanna go back and log some more games on Battle net.
This game cannot come soon enough.

You guys obviously don't play starcraft competitively, which is fine, but you shouldn't be calling the dude a sore loser just because he left early.  It's called courtesy, when the battle is over, you leave so as to not waste anyones time.  He dropped a GG and left thats just how you do it.

As for meltbrain's comment on the 3 different installments, you should realize the amount of content coming in each installment is FULL GAME equivillent, including a FULL campaign with 30missions EACH.  Its not just a 10 mission campaign for each race that they're charging full price for.  You're just hurtin yourself by being so uneducated :P

@ Meltbrain

The first game will come with all three races.  If you just want to play multi-player then you never need to pick up anything else.  And bliz said you should think of the other games more as expantions.  If I remember the quote right "Think of the other 2 games like Brood Wars for SC1"

All 3 races are available in each game on Battle.net. It's just the single player portions that are restricted.

Are they actually only doing one race playable for 30 missions?  I thought it was just more of a theme for each race, or was hopin anyway.  One playable race would suck ass.

Starcraft 2 is going to revolutionize the world!!!  And no its not one race per pack thats fucking retarded :P.
The whole three releases thing should be just thought as 2 expansions. Only con is that because campaigns will come out one at a time we wont be able to "master" all races in single player campaign.

Love this video.. But this really looks like Blizzard are playing it safe. It's a very natural, "safe" progression, i feel like i'm watching a game of Starcraft alright.

I'm not sure if that's a bad thing? Or a good thing? Argh.. I'm so torn. Part of me just feels so "done" with Starcraft now that Dawn of war has been around for so long.

I know exactly how you feel Sunjammer. It pretty much is Starcraft in 3D. I mean... no infantry in squads? That's just as bad as RE5's control scheme.

Damn, they are scary-good at that level of play.

I'd love to play this game, but I know from experience that the online playerbase is insane and I'd never win.

I like the new idea of splitting the single player campaigns up into installments. Blizzard has said they want to make the campaigns less linear with different options, its probably gonna end up a lot like DoW2. Noone is complaining about DoW2 only letting you play Space Marines, are they? Furthermore, considering what we have seen in the past campaigns there is probably a very good chance that for at least 1 or 2 points in the campaign you are going to be forced into an uncomfortable alliance with the Protoss/Zerg and either fight as them or with both races, unlike DoW's 'you hate everyone and every mission's objective is to kill everything' style of game.

People are just getting upset thinking that Blizzard already made a regular linear 8-10 mission campaign for each race and said 'fuck it, lets sell these 3 times'.

Though promising 2 expansions means that we will probably find out what happens to the third race sometime in 2019.

@Delta_Ass

You must be the only person I know who likes squad based infantry. Name me a single game where the infantry weren't 1000x more cumbersome then regular unit based.

Ummm... Dawn of War? Company of Heroes? Command and Conquer 3? Dawn of War 2? They're all pretty great with squads of infantry.

Of all you mention the only ones I wasn't frustrated with the crappy squad pathing in was C&C3, and that was mostly because I almost never needed to use infantry. In DoW and CoH I was frustrated to no ends with the individual squad members standing outside of the line of fire, stupidly running over a ton of terrain just to maintain their precious formation, and screwing up a ton in small places. If you want squads in SC2, its as simple as forming a group and setting the 'formation' button (I assume they kept this feature over from WC3? Not sure.)

I'll say that if its your first time playing an RTS, Squad based combat is probably a lot easier since you aren't hugely concerned with getting 100% effectiveness out of every unit you produce, but in any kind of experienced high level play taking away control from the player and hoping a computer performs it well is almost NEVER a good idea.
