@dezvous: I can check when I get home, but I'm pretty sure I remembering reading 8gb memory when I was playing and I was running 970sli. So yes, it seems to stack the memory for some reason, even though I always thought that wasn't possible in sli (at least in DX11)...

I think that when you're undead, your blood is replaced by whatever crazy viral infection granted you life after death. So maybe these undead have regeneration goo in their bloodstream. I don't know how it actually goes In the Warhammer universe.

@gatorman: The Roku only plays videos upto a certain file size. If they are too large they don't play.

You just described war. And since it's called Total War I'd say they are doing a damn fine job!

Kemmler is not actually a vampire. He is just a Necromancer that works with them. It is actually a part of his backstory where he wanted to live forever and used the path of necromancy. He thought about becoming a vampire but realized once you are bitten by one you become that vampires thrall and Kemmler was not having any of that. So he sought out immortality with magical ways.

Videos like this where they explain they haven't had time to play enough of these games to do QLs always make me wonder what it really is they spend most of their time on.

Haha, just messing! I actually have two 980ti's as well but I use them for GPU rendering in 3D advertising and SLi actually reduces performance in that scenario so I've never tried it.

I hope AMD brings the heat with their upcoming GPU's, we are really in need of a closer competition between the two.

I can't explain why, but the sound does not seem 100% synched up to the video feed. It's hard to tell whether it's too fast or too slow, but to me the sound seems detached from vinny and austin's facial movements.

Oh my god your load times might actually be a non-exaggerated 5x longer than mine are. That's a crazy and crappy bug to have run into.

I also had the weird flickery graphics thing in TW:W, but toggling V-Sync fixed it. Which somebody apparently told them in chat about an hour and 30 into this.

Austin's Total War skills are questionable at best...To be fair though, I've been playing Creative Assembly games for more than a decade, so I may be too critical.

As far as gods and daemons go, yeah. I believe the implication in the fluff as was that they were parallel realities. The Chaos gods and the Old Ones (who created a bunch of the races in both realities) were the main crossover between the two. Chaos is portrayed as coming from outside of reality in both realms, so it makes sense it would be the same in both. The miniatures for the classic daemons were always the same across both, they just sold them with round bases for 40K and square bases for fantasy.

It was the Chaos followers that changed. Fantasy Chaos had Chaos Warriors and Beastmen, while 40k had Chaos Space Marines and Cultists.

Of course, it gets weirder because there were other Chaos gods at various points in the lore who were destroyed or maybe just retconned out, and then there's the Elf/Eldar god Kaela Mensha Khaine. Khaine is either an aspect of Khorne or maybe a separate god, or maybe both depending on the lore at the time.

TLDR: Yes, it's the same pantheon of gods.

I enjoyed the Warhammer Total War part of this video way more than I thought I would.

I don't know man, I love Warhammer and I love Total War and this game is like pure crack. I can't stop playing it. Been playing Total War games since the first Shogun and to me, this is the best game in the series since Rome and Medieval 2. It might actually be my favourite overall.

The online I can't comment on, I never played Total War for the multiplayer. I hear Warhammers implementation of the multiplayer is severely lacking though.

I tried saying it earlier (as did a few other people), but it only got finally noticed that far in.

Giant Bomb Chess Club needs to be a thing!

The multiplayer implementation has been lacking since Shogun 2. That's not such a big deal. As long as I can quick battle, I'm fine with it. The issue is the balance ensures that Empire is pretty much the only playable faction.

Even in the singleplayer, the lack of unit formations, varied siege battles and management options are kind of a let-down.

I agree with the lack of unit formations. Regarding sieges, considering the last Total War iteration I played was Rome II at launch, I am just pleased to have sieges which actually WORK. They are a little samey, I agree, but I have to admit, even when the option was there to do otherwise I often chose a frontal assault against one wall to focus my efforts.

One other thing I do miss from the previous games is that the battle maps no longer correspond to the actual campaign map location. You can't defend river crossings for example.

All in all though, I find this to be a fantastic entry into the Total War series. I specially enjoy how different the various factions play, which has increased the replayability immensly for me.

Yeah - and lots of the Chaos stuff is a homage/reference taken from Michael Moorcock's fantasy novels, which featured forces of Order constantly battling forces of Chaos, with Balance striving to keep them both in check. The Elric sword and sorcery stories are one example, with the main character wielding a nasty magic sword called Stormbringer which is Chaos-oriented and likes to eat souls and generally cause mayhem and misery.

The eight pointed star, the physical manifestation of Chaos as corrupting/mutating, the idea of Lords of Chaos, etc. are all based on Moorcock's stuff.

Its a kind of amoral alignment system that tosses ideas of Good v. Evil out the window and likes to deal with a lot of gray. And as a lot of the punk rock/heavy metal attitude of Warhammer came out of the Thatcher era in the UK, it makes sense they'd like ultraviolent manifestations of pure carnage and anarchy to play a big role in their setting.

@mathey: I don't know my Moorcock (except through a couple of old Hawkwind songs). My understanding of some of the fluff on Chaos was that the gods were manifestations of various sins - basically a variation on seven deadly sins. So I guess that makes some degree of sense.

But considering all of that, the Chaos daemons sure seemed to be incredibly regimented back in the day. They pretty much all had a greater daemon, a roughly humanoid foot solider, and then some kind of beast, and a steed for mounted champions. Kind of a contradiction.
