It looks like Guerilla Games is finally exploring the hazy morality that they put into the original backstory but ignored in the good guys vs bad guys plot of the games.

If the backstory of Killzone was compared to Earth history, then the Helghans are basically colonial America and the UCA/ISA (side you fight for) is the British Empire. The colonizers turn America into a booming economic hub. Britain decides to increase taxes and regulations to keep America under control. America revolts, except in this story, Britain wins, takes over the original colonies, and forces all the colonists to migrate to the least hospital parts of the continent where all who can't adapt die of starvation and exposure. Over 100 years later, the rugged surviving colonists have gotten back onto their economic feet, but the British Empire uses its power to enforce unfair trading arrangements, which plummets them into a depression and causes widespread famine and poverty. This allows a charismatic leader to execute a popular coup and establishes a military state which can fight back against the British Empire. After biding their time and building up forces, the colonists launch an assault to take back the lands they were expelled from. Now you, Captain Jan Templar, are tasked with defending our peaceful empire from these evil Nazi weirdos who have attacked us for no reason.

Um... ok. God save the King and fuck those Nazis!

Glad to see this series recognize just how screwed up the protagonist's last action was in KZ3. I feel like this might be headed towards a Pocahontas-esque plot, with your character sort of siding with the Higs after seeing what the ISA has done to them.

Wow this actually looks really awesome. Surprised that I am interested in this. Gonna go pick up KZ2 and 3 on the cheap because I have only ever played like half of 2.

I'm really looking forward to this. It is amazing that Guerrilla was able to take the terrible ending that Killzone 3 had and build into what looks like an incredibly compelling sequel. It is good to see Killzone laying off of the space Nazi portrayal of the Helghast and acknowledging that they are a people who have suffered greatly at the hands of humanity. I hope the main character will see the virtue of the Helghast cause and how evil the ISA and Earth have been, go rogue and assist the Helghast in achieving justice for the centuries of brutal repression they have suffered.

You know i was warming up to this game when I was hearing comparisons to Far Cry 3. Now I'm starting to really like the looks of this game, which is surprising given I wasn't into Killzone 2 and skipped 3 because of it.

@euandewar: Also Final Fantasy VIII, Balamb Garden and Esther were both very sci-fi/blue.

Not looking too bad for a launch game. Hopefully just enough to make me forget about the fact, that I'll have to wait a bit longer for any other, big games to launch.

I have a feeling that this is going to be the launch game out of the two systems that will surprise people with being much better than they expect from it. Pretty excited about it.

Judging from the trailer, I think it's more likely that the player character, who starts with the ISA, will likely switch sides and don a set of Helghast glowing eyes.

Just like in Haze.

Surprisingly I'm growing increasingly interested in shadowfall,
I really do hope they write the political intrigue and the conflict of both sides well, because that would make or break the game for me. I hope the other amazing games that have come out lately, have showed them that it's ok to tell a less generic story this time around.

See, I'm HOPING we get to see some sort of "You know, really the Helghast aren't all THAT terrible, considering you forced them into it", but at the same time, the trailer to me just said "Well, screw it, we're Higs, we're evil, time to slaughter dudes!", with a few exceptions.

Knack still looks more charming to me, but man, I want to shoot people with an ST-52 again...
