Originally a farm worker, Gabrielle was rescued by Xena when kidnapped and nearly sold as a slave. After being rescued, Gabrielle decides to follow in Xena's footsteps and become a warrior. She uses her skills as a bard, such as persuasiveness, storytelling and musical talent, to help Xena overcome obstacles they face over the course of their journey.
While Xena goes to visit an old friend, Gabrielle is captured by King Valerian's forces and later handed over to the dark sorceress Kalabrax. Kalabrax plans to use Gabrielle as a sacrifice to become a higher power than even the Gods. Xena defeats Kalabrax and ultimately saves Gabrielle.
Gabrielle appears as one of ten playable fighters. When holding down the start button while selecting Gabrielle, she is instead renamed "Hope", based on Gabrielle's evil daughter from the TV series.
Once again, Gabrielle is captured by "evil forces" and must be saved by Xena.
