    Story

In the game you play Kyle Brennan a test pilot who becomes stranded in another part of the universe after his prototype space craft goes haywire. After meeting an alien race known as the Teladi who help fix Kyle's ship he must now not only find a way home, but also pay off his debt to his new alien benefactors. Along the way Kyle explorers numerous solar systems, flies in several space based dog fights, and ultimately saves Earth from being destroyed by an extremist alien faction.

    Gameplay

The X-Universe consists of fifty-four star systems, and within each of these is several instillations, shipyards, space stations, factories, and solar power plants. The player earns profits by trading with said instillations which can be used to upgrade weapons, cargo space, and shields. The player earns maximum profits from trading between star systems, but it is also possible to profits from trading within a single system. Many of the star systems in the X-Universe contain planets, but it is impossible for the player to land on them, and these planets are often located far away from factories plants, and other instillations.
