    Overview

King’s Knight is a vertically oriented shoot 'em up developed by Bits Laboratory and published by Square for the NES in 1986 in Japan, and 1989 in North America.

    Story

King’s Knight features a straightforward story in which the player is tasked with rescuing Princess Claire from the evil Dragon. The game features four characters:

    • Rayjack the Knight
    • Kaliva the Wizard
    • Barusa the Monster
    • Toby the Thief

    Gameplay

King's Knight is a medieval fantasy-themed top-down shoot 'em up, though it does feature some early RPG elements. The game is broken up into stages, where the goal is to avoid or destroy enemies and obstacles. The player can collect powerups increasing life, defense and jump ability, and each character can collect certain “elements” which allow them to use special powered up abilities. Each character also has their own corresponding stage, all of which must be completed before the player can attempt the fifth and final stage where all four warriors fight together.

    Music

King’s Knight features music composed by Nobuo Uematsu of Final Fantasy fame.
