Unpacking

Overview

Unpacking is a puzzle game centered around unloading boxes into a new house. It is developed by Witch Beam, and was first released on November 2, 2021 for PC, Mac, Linux, Xbox One and Switch. PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions were later released on May 10, 2022.

Story

Unpacking follows the life of Sadie (this name can be changed by the player) told through the unpacking of boxes as the character moves into new homes. The game begins in the 1990s, in the childhood bedroom of the family home, and spans two decades of moves into new places, exploring Sadie's personal and professional life.

Gameplay

The game is broken up into multiple levels, each taken place in a new home. The goal of each level is to unpack all the moving boxes and place the items within somewhere in the home. Each home contains multiple rooms, and it is up to the player to place the items in the correct spot. Once all items are removed from the boxes, the game informs the player of any items that are not correctly placed, otherwise the player is free to move on to the next level, with the option to take photos of the room with the in-game photo mode. Completing levels and finding hidden goals in each level will also unlock stickers for use in the photo mode.
