Welt Yang

Overview

The Sovereign of the "Anti-Entropy" faction and an antagonist in Honkai Impact 3rd, the main protagonist of the spinoff manga Alien Space, and a deuteragonist of Honkai Star Rail. Unlike other characters throughout the HoYoVerse, Welt Yang appears to be the same person from both Honkai Impact 3rd and Honkai Star Rail, rather than an expy or an alternate-universe interpretation.

As Sovereign

Though he grew up with a different name, Welt Yang looked up to Welt Joyce, the 1st Herrscher, and inherited his Herrscher core and name from him as a boy. When Theresa Apocalypse formed the St. Freya Academy, Welt hid in plain sight as a history teacher at the school.

At some point after the events of HI3, Welt passed on his core to Bronya Zaychik, and became the head of an animation studio, drawing storyboards for "E.T. Studio," but ended up killing a clone of Welt Joyce and pulled back into events.

Alien Space

Welt Yang is shown as an Assistant Professor at the California Institute of Technology (CalTech), in the same class where a young Himeko Murata is studying Aerospace Engineering. When Himeko travels to New Mexico to search for evidence of alien life, Welt follows her to steer her away from potential Arahato exposure. When an alien race known only as the "Sky People" threaten to invade Earth, Welt teams up with Dr. Murata, Himeko's father, to destroy their scout ship. However, this turns out to be part of Dr. Murata's plan to take Welt's Herrscher powers for himself and forcibly turn humanity into a space-faring species. Welt is then forced to kill Dr. Murata in a dramatic battle.

As a Trailblazer

After the events of Alien Space, Welt Yang is a member of the Nameless aboard the Astral Express, and the second-most senior member (next to Himeko). He doesn't talk much about his past, except to say that he is a professional animator by trade. When Dan Heng is initially unable to board the Xianzhou Luofu, Welt Yang takes his spot in the main Nameless party to board the massive world ship.

Gameplay

Honkai Impact 3rd

Welt is not a playable character in this game, but does feature in a trio of rare Stigmata that can be equipped by other playable characters.

Honkai Star Rail

Welt is a playable character who follows the Path of Nihility, and wields the Imaginary element. Initially, he was the only playable character to do the latter, until the release of Version 1.1 introduced more Imaginary users. His skills focus on reducing enemy Speed stats and inflicting Imprisonment to further delay their turn, and Yang's passive Talent allows him to deal additional damage to enemies who are under Slow status.
