Wylfred has a grim outlook on life, having lost his father Thyodor in a war who was then taken as an Einharjer by Valkyrie Lenneth, his sister Elsie to hunger, and his mother to depression. He blames Lenneth for his losses and then forges the Covenant of the Plume with Mistress Hel to take his revenge on Valkyrie Lenneth. He also feels strongly for people who have lost friends and family in a war, having himself experienced that same loss.
He and his friend Ancel works as mercenaries at Aullewyn Keep. There, he unknowingly forges the Covenant of the Plume and sacrifices Ancel to the Plume. Horrified by this, he leaves Aullewyn Keep. Later, Ailyth appears to Wylfred and presents herself as Mistress Hel's servant and guide for Wylfred to fulfill his duty to Mistress Hel.
From then on, he gains friends and power as he is involved in the war between the brothers Prince Kristoff and Prince Langrey who are fighting for the throne. The actual story route and ending is decided by the number of people he sacrifices to the Plume.
Sacrificing no one will lead to the most difficult and best ending. Sacrificing a few will lead to the not-so good ending. Sacrificing many will lead to the bad ending. Sacrificing too many will attract the attention of Freya who will end his life and story abruptly.
