Overview
Yomotsu Hirasaka is a dungeon located in the Midnight Channel and the final dungeon that the player must explore in the "true ending" path of Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4. Near the game's end, the player uncovers the true identity of the person that granted the protagonist, the villain Tohru Adachi, and the misguided Taro Namatame the power to enter the TV World, as well as the culprit responsible for the fog and the threat of Shadows overtaking Inaba; the unassuming gas station attendant seen at the game's start, who is none other than the goddess Izanami in disguise.
Izanami challenges the protagonist and his friends to a final confrontation, and then retreats into the TV World to await them at the top of Yomotsu Hirasaka. Inside the dungeon, she asks the protagonist if the location seems familiar; it is in fact the same location that he previously visited in a dream during his first night in Inaba.
Yomotsu Hirasaka is home to the most powerful enemy encounters in the game. The player must ascend nine floors in order to face Izanami in the game's final battle.
Inspiration
"Yomotsu Hirasaka" is a reference to the Japanese legend of Izanagi and Izanami. It is the name of the slope that serves as the entrance to Yomi, or the underworld. In the legend, Izanagi travels to Yomi with the intent of rescuing Izanami after she burns to death giving birth to Kagutsuchi. However, he becomes horrified by her rotted appearance and flees. As Izanami becomes enraged and gives chase, Izanagi blocks the entrance with a boulder to stop her pursuit.
