Activision Probably Making That New TMNT Game

This makes way more sense than the rumors that were going around.

Would you trust these turtles with your children?
Would you trust these turtles with your children?

Look, the idea of Rocksteady Studios applying their expertise to a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game remains a really great good idea. I mean, hell, the series has a character named Rocksteady.

Besides the fact that it doesn’t make any sense given how the licensing works out, it appears another company is already in cahoots with the turtles: Activision.

TMNT fansite Ninja Pizza (which is a really great name for a TMNT fansite, by the way) went through a series of photos taken by ToyArk from the ongoing Toy Fair in New York and noticed Activision was mentioned as a partner for TMNT in 2012.

In my dreams, though, Rocksteady is still making that game.

Yeah, at least they got the name to back it. But when was TMNT last popular?..

They had that series on Fox Kids for a good number of years awhile back. There's a new comic series too, but I doubt that'll do well enough to continue.

@UltimAXE: Wow, I didn't even know that movie existed. I'll definitely check into it. And you're right, that 4Kids TMNT was totally OK, I think by the time that came around I had just stopped being so heavily influenced by cartoons, so it didn't impact me like the original series did.

The entirety of Turtles Forever seems to still be up on youtube, so you may as well watch it there. I hear that the DVD release is kind of poor (it's not even the uncut version).

And I get where you're coming from. Thing is, with me, even as a kid I thought that the turtles had become a little too goofy. 4Kids TMNT came out at just the right time for me and was pretty much exactly what I wanted out of those characters. I think that I've enjoyed the concept of the turtles more so than any one incarnation of them.

Such a shame. Just going off of Activision's track record, this won't be as good as I hope it is. :(

It's too bad the awesome gritty comic book style is somehting that will probably never be replicated in another game or movie

I think this is good. Activsion has a lot of good devs to make it.

This post looks like someone FROM Activision posted it to make it look like something non-derivative was going on here...

Rocksteady TMNT would have been awesome.

By the way, am I the only person who enjoyed the movie about 5 years ago? May not have had Shredder, but I thought it was great anyway!

TMNT remains a pretty great and versatile property.

The 2003 animated series is really good, actually better than the 1987 series if you take off the rose-tinted glasses. Turtles Forever was a nice mix of both series. The 2007 CG movie was pretty great when it really had no reason to be. The new comic series from IDW has a nice sense of the original comic series from the '80s while taking the story in pretty interesting new directions, even tinkering with the origin of the turtles in a very interesting way.

Not everything Activision puts out is total shit. I think. I seem to recall liking a game from them in the past couple years? Oh yeah, Singularity, that was basically it though. Still, get the right developer on this with the right vision and it could be awesome. But I'll always think about what could have been with Rocksteady at the helm.

With Activision in charge I could only picture a low budget, fast developed, tv series to video game adaption. With Rocksteady, I see serious potential in quality.

This could be based on the new Michael Bay TMNT revival. Yes, that's a thing. Yes, it's probably going to be terrible.

The Rocksteady rumor was never realistic because of the parent companies involved (Time Warner/Viacom).

No it wasn't. it treated the 80's series as laughable nonsense, just as it seems most new incarnations of franchises do. "Ha ha, look at how silly we all used to be. But we're grown up now and this is legit." Yeah, sure. For a show about mutated turtles that like pizza.

I hope when they do a new series in 2014 (or whatever) they treat the 2003 series the same way. "Oh that 2003 series was so silly. These are the real TMNT!"

I agree. They did the same in Sonic Generations when they treated "Classic Sonic" as this innocent steamboat willy Micky Mouse type silent character when the fact was in 1991, Sonic was supposed to be portrayed as the "cool" counterpart to Mario.

I'm a fan of both the 1987 and 2003 turtles and I have to say both were very similar in the sense that both in the earlier seasons, were more serious and competent while in the later seasons both got more tacky. In Turtles Forever they took the best of the 2003 and paired it with what they think they remembered of the worst of 1987 based off the art you would see in paper cups and plates for kid's bday party's IMO.

And FYI there's already gonna be a new series in Nick this 2012 and it already kinda looks tacky right off the bat for some.

edit: grammar errors.

I felt they already kinda did that in Turtles Forever when they brought out the Prime universe Turtles, because obviously those are the coolest and the 1987 and 2003 Turtles are silly in comparison. But 2003 is certainly not anywhere near as bad as 1987.

It'll probably be based on the new TMNT series that Nickelodeon is making, Which will be entirely CGI and Rob Paulsen, Who originally voiced Raphael in the original series will be voicing Donatello in this one.

Activision plus licensed game that sounds like a recipe for a giant pile of suck! Not only that they probably have almost no real incentive to make a good game because people will buy it anyway. Parents for their kids because it is relatively safe, and Turtles fans because it is Turtles.
