American McGee's (First) Alice Coming To Consoles Via Online Pass

Recent speculation that the original Alice game, American McGee’s Alice, was headed to consoles in some fashion was confirmed today. In a press release, EA announced that each sealed copy of the sequel, Alice: Madness Returns, is shipping with a one-time use Online Pass that’ll give access to a downloadable version of the original game, day and date with the release of Madness on June 14. 

There's a couple of catches to be aware of. The original Alice, at least initially, will not only require an Online Pass, but the Madness Returns disc. Also, Alice won’t be available on XBLM and PSN in a traditional sense--you’ll need to download it through Madness Returns’ menu.

Sick. This is how you do a Project $10 right. I wonder if they're just porting it or remastering it at all.

Neat I guess. I wouldn't be surprised if PC got nothing like usual.

I really hope the new game is as good as it looks because it looks AWESOME! I want to play the first but I don't care thtat much. The second game is what has me psyched...

Pretty nifty. I definitely plan to get Madness Returns and this'll be a neat bonus, whether it's dated or not. Always wanted to try it out for myself and this is a great opportunity to finally do so.

It looks like it is going to be a direct port.  I remember starting the original Alice back when it came out.  The controls were terrible with a mouse.  Here's to hoping that the game plays better with a controller.

i may buy into this and actually finish the first Alice game on the console.

With this the game just got on my Radar. I'll still wait for a price drop.

I was planning on getting this game day 1 anyway, but this is a nice bonus. Perhaps now I can actually get around to beating the game. I always loved the soundtrack and overall style of the original Alice, but playing a platformer with FPS controls certainly wasn't the most optimal experience. Hopefully they fix that stuff for the console release.

I wonder if I should get this or MK after Brink comes out.

Too lazy to tack on a half-hearted multiplayer in a vain attempt to curb used sales, EA decided to toss in a crappy port worth approximately $0 instead.  Bold.

I had no interest in this before now but I would buy this just to support the trend of free copies of older games with new ones. 

Never really liked the original Alice, can't seem to get myself to care about the new Alice, and with all the other upcoming games and my huge backlog I don't see me getting around to any of this.

Think of all the people that want to play this but are not able to. It is really expensive to buy a copy. This is a good deal. If you want to pay 10$ less go buy it used and support gamestop more. "

I kinda would've liked the original before the sequel, just so I could play it and hopefully finish it before the release of the sequel. But, after watching the Quick Look, I am pretty interested in this game. Getting the original with the purchase of the sequel is good though. (just wish it would've been released before hand though, on PSN/XBLM for mostly selfish reasons).

I still have my copy of Alice, I still like it...have not played it in like 5+ years maybe that is for the best.

I agree with you that it's a good deal for the people who want to play it, but what about those of us who have already bought and played the OG Alice?  It's like they are building $10 into the price of the game for a game I already own and have no interest in playing or buying again.  I won't buy it used from Gamestop, since I just don't buy used games, but because of this, I'll definitely wait until it drops in price before I buy it. "

It's always nice when you get previous games in a series packed in as extras with the new game. I'm not too keen on those catches though. Then again, I won't be playing this untill long after release anyway.

A PC release of a EA game gets the shaft. Big surprise.  Guessing this wouldn't have dlc support either. Just like every other EA game on the PC. I wonder why they even release games on that platform. 

This game looks like the goods, I'm not really interested in playing the original though, just don't have the time anymore and from what Vinny said, don't think I'd want to.

That's actually not too bad of a deal. I still have my original PC copy somewhere, so I'm good without the added bonus since I'd play the new game on PC anyway.

I just wish it would get a little lovin' too. Whatever the game looks cool anyway, plus maybe they'll release it at 49.99 instead?.....Maybe?

Was looking forward to this game, and I'm feeling them including something like this in it.

As long as it's not a Limited Edition-style release where only the first run gets the code for the first game, I can deal with it.  Of course, I too still have the original discs so I'll probably wait a couple weeks to see how the first game even plays on consoles.

Man, I'm probably the biggest Alice fan in general around these parts, and as much as I adore OG Alice, I agree with the few people here saying that it hasn't aged well.

I still give it a run through every now and then, but by my gaming standards today parts of it aren't that enjoyable - garden maze sections I'm especially looking at you.

Regardless, it's a nice bonus especially if I can get some achievoes out of it.

For all the console folk unimpressed by the offering, just so you know, the first game on PC was (and still is) a rarity. There are some people selling their copies on EBay for pretty outrageous prices, but before Madness Returns was announced, you had people asking where they could find AMA because it was essentially a collector's item. Even moreso if you had the original box/Psychiatrist's Journal... which I do have, somewhere in my house xP.

So I'm buying the sequel and once I have it I can play the first game........?

This method of sale seems a bit silly.

I think this is the proper way of using something like an online pass, sure, the game may not be good, but at least you're getting a "bonus", besides, this is the first time they've done this in a single player game so I think they'll eventually get better at this kind of offers.

nice twist ... cause a few weeks ago I looked into "alternative ways" *cough* to play the first one before getting the new one but their official solution sounds even better :)

I don't get why people complain about this. The game was going to be $60,00 regardless, and now the complete first game is included.

And to think that there are people who would rather have a tacked on multiplayer mode instead of this. I'm quite baffled actually.

I am kinda amazed that people are complaining about E.A including the original game for FREE to people who buy the game new, its not like their locking access to the new game if you trade it in!

Anyway this is great news for me as I own the original game but I always found the  mouse & keyboard control set up awkward.

I hope they bring the first one to Steam as well.

I've always loved the style of this game, and cannot wait to play it on my console XD
