Borderlands 2 Is Officially a Thing

Gearbox's action RPG sequel gets this month's Game Informer cover, will be at PAX Prime and Gamescom.

Guess what, guys? There's going to be a second Borderlands game.

2K officially announced today that the sequel to Gearbox's breakout action role-playing shooter is very much in development, and will be headed to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in fiscal 2012 (translation: sometime after April next year).

No Caption Provided

In addition to the basic announcement, Game Informer revealed Borderlands 2 as its September cover exclusive, dropping a few details on what we can expect from the sequel.

Don’t expect just a couple bazillion more guns this time around. Gearbox is introducing new and more diverse environments, smarter and more powerful enemies, and an improved mission system capable of delivering a better story.

Borderlands 2 will get its official live debut to the world later this month at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, and will also make its way to PAX Prime this year. Anyone heading to either of those shows that feels like letting out a big, honking squee of excitement right now will be forgiven for doing so. Just, you know...clean up your mess afterward, okay?

The original was great, if they expand on the gameplay of the original and add a more interesting story it can be really great.

Oh come on. Borderlands 2? Should have been called Borderworlds ffs.

I'll skip borderworlds entirely and wait for Bordergalaxies

yes, Borderlands was not terribly engaging for solo play, true. But it was sometfourhing special. It was an entirely new type of experience. Felt abot it a lot like I felt about Left four Dead. Do not knock it because it was not for you.

I loved Borderlands, one of my favorite games ever. Just make the ending something better than finding the thing you've been looking for the whole time and it being a lie. All those hours and thinking wow, I'm sure there is a ton of content AFTER I get there so this is great! Only to hear "we lied, fight, the end".

I loved quite a bit about Borderlands, but not being a co-op player did make the experience a bit dull. I tried co-op online and found it a bit ridiculous. Oh well. There was quite a bit to like about the game, but unless the single-player is bumped up a bit, I'll probably pass. As for it being an entirely new type of experience ... not really. It certainly was unique in its own way of putting RPG, shooter, and open world exploration together. But none of its individual parts were unique. It was a solid game with a lot of potential that didn't quite come together for me. I liked it well enough to be curious--but not ecstatic--about a sequel.

Oh dood I live online play. Met my now best friend on XBLA on there. Wasted a good portions of my life farming for Cromarax! I hope Borderlands 2 is more epic, more fun, and more challenging. Hunter and Siren made all the enemies into childs play.

I found Borderlands to be very boring and even with other players it did nothing for me. It had bland shooting and pathetic AI but most of all the world just felt dead and not in the way the "story writers" intended. The loot idea was a bit overblown but I actually liked that aspect a bit. I think a better story and just a more interesting game would be good.

Sweet, I loved the first Borderlands. I enjoyed the single and multiplayer modes in it immensely.

Please oh Please, don't use GameSpy for the PC MP this time around.  Use something that actually works.

Why is it always the people with no achievements in a game claim to know how it played? *sigh* for those of us who have I know I look forward to teaming back up with you!

The game was created from the ground up to be played with others, this sort of criticism ain't fair.

Having said that, I think it was perfectly fine as a single player experience.

I played borderlands mostly by myself. It's better as a multiplayer game but fine as a single player one.
