Crysis Arrives for Consoles on October 4

$20 gives you the opportunity to see where Crysis began.

When Crysis was released, if you didn't have a massive PC rig, you were simply out of luck.
When Crysis was released, if you didn't have a massive PC rig, you were simply out of luck.

Crytek's Crysis was once the game to show off your PC rig, years before the studio added consoles into its playbook. As a result, console owners never had a chance to see what all the fuss was about, relegated to watching YouTube videos.

That changes next week, with an updated version of the original Crysis coming on October 4 to both Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network next week for $20 (1600 Microsoft Points). This version includes tweaked lighting, support for 3D and other enhancements meant to keep the game looking current.

It'll be interesting to see how Crysis holds up. Maybe some PC owners can drop in some thoughts?

I like how most people in here have like 4-8 posts. Troll account influx?

Well, I loved the first Crysis when it was new. Couldn´t play it maxed out, but pretty close to it. Crysis 2 is a great game too, just different. Don´t lose your shit about it. I´m curious about this version.. a demo would be nice. Really hate all these Games on Demand things that keep popping up without any demo. So, maybe a QL to help us out?

i was expecting 40 dollar, but 20 is even better. Crysis had no online multiplayer right?

It did have MP and it was actually pretty cool for a while. So is this a Games on Demand thing, or is 20 dollars the new 15? Bets on if GB loads up the original Crysis for comparison to the new one? I think they're all afraid of that game.

I think its a fair price . Its not really a run of the mill xbla game

Console gamers finally get the GOOD Crysis, assuming they don't change much. They'll finally see just how bad Crysis 2 is :/ ugh

Bad date. By the time I finish Dead Island, Gears and Dark Souls I'll be getting into Arkham Asylum, Saint's Row, Uncharted and Skyrim (to name a few). By the time I'm done with those I'm pretty sure my desire to finally see Crysis will be long forgotten.

Man, I had no idea that console gamers were so insecure. Not 2 min go by and I have people misunderstanding and taking offense to my comments. Oh well, long live opinions and peoples' right to express them.

I didn't say they were stupid. Why are you putting words in my mouth? I was driving at the fact that most console shooters are linear and explain everything that you have to do to complete an objective. Rarely do you get to tackle objectives from dozens of different angles in console shooters like you can in Crysis.

The fact they don't use their PC for gaming does not make them stupid, where does this comment even come from?

I'm glad that console gamers will get to play Crysis. (Even though Crytek completely destroyed the story and game play in the sequel.) But I have serious doubts as to whether console gamers will understand/enjoy the game. Crysis has so much freedom that you, the gamer, decides how much fun it is and I'm worried that console gamers won't "get" this concept. Basically what I'm driving at is: Crysis is as fun as you make it with all the tools that are given to you. This game won't spoon feed you, you actually have to use your imagination a little. Crazy concept for a shooter game, I know. Lol.

I absolutely love Crysis because of all the different options that are available to you. Every time I play the game it is a very different experience, but seeing that screenshot where they took out all the foliage would completely ruin the game for me. I personally find the game most enjoyable on the hardest difficulty because it is very very realistic. Pretty much 2 or 3 shots will kill you, even if you are in armor mode and this forces me to think about tactics and plan out my assaults on the enemies. When I play the game I am constantly running behind bushes and diving prone position into foliage to avoid detection. At times I use hit and run or diversionary tactics which may be difficult to mimic on a controller.

I just hope that Crytek can make the game fun for console but I don't see how without all the plants and the precision of mouse and keyboard. Oh well, maybe they will get it right and I'm worried for nothing.

@SeriouslyNow: I say we ditch the car metaphor, because it's missing the point. Console gamers get a well done, if not parred down visually, port of a fairly fun hardcore pc game. Not only that, they get it at a stellar price.

Also, I wasn't referring to your statements towards me in when I talked about your negativity. I was directing it at your attitude (or rather, the perceived attitude) you've presented in this thread. Your posts have conveyed a message that this is an inferior game, on an inferior platform, and it looks crappy.

While the first two statements are technically true* (and the last one is a fair opinion), it's the presentation of those arguments that seems harsh. In layman's terms, your posts fell into the "pc elitist" catagory, and I don't say that trying to insult you, either.

*to qualify that statement, the console versions lack the ability to mod, and directx 10 features. To name a few.*

I said it looks like shit. I then explained why it looked like shit. You got up in arms and took my statements personally when there was nothing personal about them. I gave critique and you decided to label me. Get over yourself.

I never actually took it all that personally. I have no affinity for the console version of these games, so it's nothing to do with my personal feelings on this game.

I had just interpreted your comments as pc elitist, but after reading your later comments it just seems like you just decided to take a shit on the visuals. The part where I come in is just my general frustration with the subset of PC users who go out of their way to insult console games and gamers. Not that you necessarily fall into this group, but I certainly felt that way.

For all the PC faithful who touted this game for so many years as being the benchmark for graphics and sandbox gameplay shouldnt they be pleased that all of us without monster PCs can enjoy the game they loved so much? I am just excited that I get to play a game I never thought I would and so quickly after Crysis 2! I agree that PC games will always look and run better on a PC but for the rest of us ham and eggers let us enjoy our economy edition Crysis.

Great to see Crysis running on a console. I still rank it was one of my favourites FPS's.

And its always funny to see this game (*still*) bringing out the inner PC neckbeard in some folk.

I love when people who barely know how to drink and fuck call others neckbeards.

I'd wager I'm older than you. Just relying on my instinct and endless wisdom.

Don't bet on it, unless you're almost 40.

Damn, you have indeed got a few years on me (I'm 31). I've squandered most of my adult privileges since having earned them (especially drinking, ugh) but women are fine by me.

Even though I own it on PC and Crysis 2 also and a good PC, aswell as owning C2 on 360. I still want to pick this release up again. It should be fun going back trough it and get some achievements.

I know it will never look as good on the 360 as it does on the PC (witch still blows my mind today looking at it) but I'm fine with it. I can agree with the letdown that Crysis 2 didn't look as good on the PC as it should have.

It's a solid single player fps with functional multiplayer if that's included in the console release. $20 seems like an amazing price for a game of that length.

Looks like Crytek did a pretty good job optimizing the game for consoles. Doesn't hold a candle to the PC version on maximum video settings, but at least you don't have to spend megabucks to play it like a lot of us did. $20 is pretty competitive.

I found the game very fun for about 2/3 of the campaign (after which it becomes a corridor shooter). It really has that Far Cry-esque non-linear island feeling in that you're free to get to the objective however you wish. When this came out, the suit abilities were a neat innovation (and still are, compared to Crysis 2's simplified version). Hope you new players enjoy it!

@SeriouslyNow: No it isn't. It's like saying a Porsche-styled VW is a good sports car for a thrifty shopper. As it stands right now, a 360 is $200, a pc that runs crysis (not that it's some kind of benchmark anymore) will still run, at the absolute cheapest, about $450.

My big point is, why are you being so negative and hateful in the first place? It just comes off as rude and disrespectful towards console gamers. (and just for clarification, remember that I'm both a pc gamer and console gamer)

A Porsche styled VW will never be a sports car. I'm neither being negative, nor hateful, I am stating my opinion. I'm a gamer. I also game on console.

@SeriouslyNow: Having played crysis on my pc, it looks really good on consoles! Granted, there's a fairly large amount of pop-in, and, like you said, no filtering on the textures. Those things just don't detract from the visuals that much when you consider how good it still looks in translation. On top of that, the framerate is silky smooth in the video.

Does it look like it's running on a pc? Heck no. Does it look great? sure

That's like saying that a Porsche styled VW Beetle is as good as a real 911 to someone who'll never own a real 911. While it may be true it will never make that Beetle feel like, look like or handle like a real Porsche 911 to someone who has driven one. The framerate isn't silky smooth either, when he turns there's noticeable frame drop. That's also one of the lowest impact areas of the game; it's a bridge with two checkpoints, with one animated gun and one AI trooper (in the vid) so it's hardly going to be indicative of the game's performance in high impact scenes with many enemies. Expect much lower framerates in proper combat.

Nah, that actually looks pretty great. Did you set the video to 720p?

Can't wait for this now. Just don't know when I'm going to have time to play it with the flood of other stuff.

It really doesn't and yes, of course I did. The complete lack of ground detail in terms of foilage, anisotropic filtering and depth of field makes it look arse to someone who knows how good Crysis is meant to look.

Can't wait for this now. Just don't know when I'm going to have time to play it with the flood of other stuff.

Yes, and they're also taking out the ascension level. Boooo. I'm still going to get it, because I think it'll (and hope it will) be great. Since it's going to be a bit different, I'm going to have to play differently, don't know if I like that or not yet.
