Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut Is Happening

With new PS3 content for both newcomers and experienced coffee drinkers.

Deadly Premonition designer Swery 65 has been teasing a PlayStation 3 version of his celebrated piece of gaming eccentricity for a while, but it’d been a while since we’d heard anything about it.

That changed today, with Rising Star Games confirming Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut.

This updated version of the game, exclusive to PS3, includes new “scenarios,” reworked combat controls, and downloadable content to “expand the mystery beyond the original game.” That sounds like there will be new material for both players who want to play Deadly Premonition a second time (or coming to it for the first time), and content for anyone who wants the closest thing to a sequel.

That we’re even seeing Swerey 65 being given a chance to dip back into Deadly Premonition is impressive enough. I’m curious what the new material will be like. Deadly Premonition was created in a vacuum, and this new content comes after everyone heaped critical but enthusiastic praise on the game. Will that reaction influence what Swery 65 ends up creating?

Guess we’ll find out early next year. The Director’s Cut launches in the first quarter of 2013.

I expect FULL coverage.

I don't know what you could really add content-wise to Deadly Premonition. Fixing the controls seems fine, though, presuming they're actually better and not just different.

Posted by triple07

Wow I did not see this coming.

Posted by Yummylee

Just hope they fix the awful map system in that game. I was very forgiving towards a lot of the games quirks, but that map made getting around a hassle even I found tough to stomach. Still completed like 80% of the side quests, though...

Anywhoo I'm excited all the same, and I'll gladly buy myself a third copy of this motherfucker.

Excellent!

Does this count as a "requel"?

Hopefully they make the game somewhat enjoyable. I picked it up and wanted to get into it but man I can't get past that gameplay.

Reworked combat controls? But they where perfect already :P

Having watched both the DP endurance runs twice, maybe its time to play it myself :P

NO!

Also, I've already watched, bought, and finished all of Deadly Premonition (watched it twice, actually), and god damn it, I'm gonna do it again.

New endurance run!!

More Deadly Premonition is always good news, I wonder if they'll keep the same price tag of $20, or bump the price to $30 for the added content.

Oh God, I just bought a PS3 and have just about finished playing all the big games I missed (MGS4, Uncharted 2 & 3, Heavy Rain, Tokyo Jungle, Journey), and dammit I'm probably going to end up getting this.

Is it worth watching both of the Deadly Premonition Endurance Runs? I only watched the Jeff/Vinny half

Throw Dave and Drew into a room and do another Endurance Run! DO IT!

EDIT: Sorry for double post.

I hope this means bicycling and cologne finally make it into the game!

I swear to God I was just watching Twin Peaks before reading this.

It's too odd to be a coincidence.

I doubt it. I mean this'll still be a re-release of a 2010 release after all, even with the addition of ''HD graphics''.

Why yes I would like this, thank you.

Director's Cut. In my coffee.

@fusrodah: You've seen the better half, but there are highlights on youtube narrowed down to a couple segments.

Please God let there be a bike.

I couldn't be much more stoked about this.

The Endurance Run can't be considered complete until both teams play through the Director's Cut now.

awesome.

I'm not kidding when I saw that this is one of my most anticipated releases of 2013. I just hope that the price is right; 30$, maybe 40$ seems right depending on how much they did to it.

Posted by Mustachio

They need to do an ER Quicklook and a VJ Quicklook of the new content.

Posted by JMatrix

Too bad I watched the V&J run only a couple of months ago, could've used this as an excuse to finally watch it (not sure why I kept myself from it as long as I did, as it sure was hella fun!). Perhaps I'll watch both ERs sometime next year again...

Yay! New Endurance Run! Thanks, guys! We didn't exactly ask for it, but we can't stop you, so go ahead!

My coffee was right!

There is a typo in the 4th paragraph, should be "Swery", not "Swerey".

Must have seen it in the coffee.

Guess my yearly Deadly Premonition playthrough will continue for 3 more years. Personally I don't think much needed to be fixed (aside from that god-awful map), but I still look forward to the gameplay changes with excitement. I really wonder what those added scenarios will be.

Edited by onarum

Hell, I think the crew will have to play through the whole thing again then ;P

Seriously though I'm totally getting this.

Posted by kennyshat

Hmm, while I watched about half of the Endurance Runs for this game, I never got around to playing it myself. Maybe this winter I'll finally finishing watching Twin Peaks on Netflix and play this when it comes out.

Yep, Brad and Ryan's run is great as well, on it's own way ;)
Posted by OneKillWonder_

I was upset reading that it was a PS3 exclusive release, until I remembered that I own a PS3. I will probably pick this up. I loved playing through it the first time (well...not actually playing it, more just experiencing it), and this sounds like a good enough excuse to do it all again.

Going to pre-order like 5 copies of this.

So all they added was bicycles and a better map then?

My pot is getting cold.

How many more wall crawly ladies will there be?

Edited by Sil3n7

I wouldn't get our hopes up about doing an endurance run of this again. Jeff always seems aggressively negative towards any idea about an endurance run.

It's kinda weird.
