Here's A Quick, Exclusive Glimpse At A PAX 10 Selection

Expect to hear a lot more about Supergiant's Bastion in the weeks and months ahead.

Psst. Hey, kid. Want to see something you haven't seen before? Yeah, I know, we normally don't traffic in exclusives, but this one's something you'll want to keep an eye on.

(Oh, hey, get a larger version of the shot right here, cool?)

That right there is a screenshot of Bastion, an action-RPG set for release in 2011 on PC and consoles by Supergiant Games. It's one of the selections for the PAX 10 this year. The PAX 10, in case you didn't know, is an annual collection of 10 independent games, whittled down from a stack of over 100 submissions by a rigorous selection process run by the Penny Arcade guys. Bastion is in pretty good company this year, alongside games like Altitude, Super Meat Boy, and Retro City Rampage.

All 10 of the selections will be shown at the Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle next weekend, but we'll have some information on Bastion in the days before the show that you'll almost certainly be interested in seeing. After that, we'll spend some time during September 9's Big Live Live Show: Live with the team currently working on the game to find out how their PAX debut went and what lies ahead as they continue building Bastion.

Do not miss it. Jeff Gerstmann on Google+

Late Sunday night posts?! Exclusives?! Sweet.

Posted by Malakhii

I did not expect this logging on late, on a Sunday night.

@Spoonman671: It'll be an all day event if I understand correctly. Sadly, i'll be in class for a large majority of it :(

Wow, if that's a screenshot and not a mock-up, then I really want to see it in action!

I have no idea what is going on in that picture. Great.

Cool, looks like the polygons they used to make 3d-style sprites out of, like Super Mario RPG and Donkey Kong Country.

On the one hand: looks cool, I'll keep an eye out for more info on it. On the other hand: another cartoony action RPG gets into the PAX 10, while Frozen Synapse doesn't? Man, I don't get that at all.

Oh boy, that looks pretty interesting.

Yeah me neither.

This dude with the scythe here looks almost EXACTLY like Morag from the original Magi-Nation TCG. /obscure reference.

Posted by Tordah

Looks pretty colorful for an Action RPG.

I really really really hope super meat boy comes to a portable platform as it looks so awesome and would rather be able to take it with me than jsut have at home.

For once I'm lucky that I'm in the UK as it means the live show is on at a perfect time and I can hopefully be more involved.

bigliveliveshowlive! exclusives!

he's heating up

Man, there's been kind of a rebirth of action RPGs lately, what with the Torchlight and DeathSpank games and then Diablo 3 looming on the horizon.

This looks okay too though!

Appropriate use of a vaca day. Live show yo.

I only know about Magi Nation through the Gameboy game, it was pretty cool but the I only saw the TCG being sold once at at the mall as a kid, kinda missed out on that!

It seems isometric games ( a la diablo ) are the new hot thing, first Torchlight, Lara Croft: GOL and now this bastion.

Me Likes!

Hey, you know what I'm sick of?

Fucking conventions EVERY TWO DAYS.

Anyway, this looks like another poor man's Diablo. Can't blame people for jumping on board, but I'm not sure if I'm af an of the slightly "3D Dot Game Heroes" look of this one.

Posted by SaturdayNightSpecials

Greg Kasavin seems to be on the project, so I'll follow it. The artstyle is interesting already.

Posted by General_D23

Wow, didn't expect to see this when I logged in at 4 in the morning. Looks interesting.
