IO Interactive's New Game Is...What Now?

The creators of Hitman and Freedom Fighters have gone in a decidedly cuter direction this time around.

IO Interactive--makers of Hitman, Freedom Fighters, and, yes, Kane & Lynch--announced their newest game today courtesy of parent company Eidos. With such a grim, gritty resume, you'd expect even more blood, gore, death, and destruction to come out of the Danish studio.

IO's next game does feature swords and, presumably, killing, but apparently it will be the cutest killing you've ever seen. The game is Mini Ninjas, the mind is baffled, and here's a trailer.

Not much information available on what the game will be like, though it will be on every console and handheld you can think of. I'll leave you with some screenshots and a snippet from the press release, which describes Mini Ninjas thusly. You can also hit the game's official site for more to come.

Join Hiro, the smallest hero on the biggest adventure, as he embarks on an epic and electrifying quest to restore harmony to a world on the brink of chaos. Use your skills and mighty Ninja training to battle a magical army of evil Samurai. Harness the power of your Kuji magic and utilise the special skills of your Mini Ninja friends as you travel through a perilous world to reach the final confrontation with the Evil Samurai Warlord in his Fortress of Doom.

Reminds me alot of I-Ninja

Could be awesome.

Cute ninja's are like aid's, I don't know how to finish this.

I like the games made from the fine folks at Io (well, I like Freedom Fighters and Hitman. Kane and Lynch isn't so good). But....didn't we see this game? On the PS2? 5 years ago? Does anyone remember I-Ninja?
Cutesy, Superdeformed Ninja dude in decent, but not exceptional 3D platformer.
I'm kinda tired of the game even without playing it, but Io makes solid games. I guess I'm....cautious....about this one, It's different....but, kinda derivative already.

This looks friggin' awesome! Freedom Fighters was great, ninja's can never fail (unless it's every tenchu game but the first one). Also, "Fortress Of Doom"?!? Only missing lasers!

IO er blevet skøre...

Posted by stephengotlost

Dibs on not having to review that game.

Posted by jakob187

So basically...Eidos and Io Interactive decided to take 1 part I-Ninja and 1 part Brave Fencer Musashi, disgrace both of their names, and present us with something that will get 8.5's because Eidos says it will?

Yep...don't give a shit about this game...solely because Io continues to get published by Eidos.

NOOOOOOOOO....what the fuck is going on, where is Hitman 5??? Stick to what you dudes do best. Murder simulators son.

dude.......panda?

Posted by zitosilva

It looks interesting, at least I like the art style. Too bad there's no gameplay.

Someone already made this game....

OH GOD NO! First I heard that the Sonic, Phantasy Star creator, Yuji Naka is doing two Wii games and now this? Do I just have to depend on Kamiya, Itagaki, Kojima and Inafune for new IPs for the rest of my life or what?

The trailer shows three peeps fighting evil, hopefully this will be co-op.

He...he turned into a panda when he hurt him. Is that why pandas are endangered? There aren't enough ninjas around to kill people? Why did Uma Thurman stop at Bill? Why didn't she think of the pandas?!

Looks interesting, though I would much prefer Hitman 5. 47 ftw

this has an art style really similar to TF2, which i kinda love. Will keep an eye on this one.

I'll check out anything they make...Hitman games always impressed me and Freedom Fighters was amazing, Kane and Lynch had some pretty fresh ideas, but well didn't execute that well.  This looks really...unique...I'll check it out.

If you ask me, that series could be done much better as well.  Until there's a game to compete with it though, Where The Fuck is Hitman 5?

Nice to see other people who like hwo this looks, I think people need to stop hating on Eidos, I can't help but be excited at this super-cute thing

Posted by LiquidPrince

Those are some mighty fine looking graphics if that was in game.

Posted by Kraznor

Nice Milkman, also immediately thought of I-Ninja. Don't think that sold very well either so not sure what Eidos is thinking.

Posted by Varone

Never really liked the Hitman games, but this looks promising. By the way Brad, it's not being released on the PSP.

Posted by FordFairlane

I always liked the Mark of Kri and Rise of the Kasai games; maybe this will scratch that titch.

Seriously, what the hell? I've been stoked for a new Hitman game since Blood Money, and I've been stoked for even longer about the prospect of another Freedom Fighters. Who knows, it might end up being great, but after Kane & Lynch I'm not especially interested in a new franchise. More Hitman! More Freedom Fighters dammit!

Couldn't have said it better myself. Looks like my Eidso boycott will keep going on.

They should make a new Brave Fencer Musashi though. Like a T-rated Ninja Gaiden/Devil May Cry. I always thought that gameworld was charming
Posted by GTCknight

Looks like they are trying to rip-off I-ninja. But more to the point a "Fortress of Doom" did I step into a time machine or something I mean whats next "OH noes its the evil samurai robots! Only the three little ninjas can save us now." this is obviously for little kids.

Did anyone else notice that only the one on the right (fine also the one in the middle if you want to count that one) actually looked like a ninja. Seriously when was the last time you ever heard of a ninja using a big huge wooden hammer (in combat) before?

I WANT HITMAN 5

Posted by Vod_Crack

If this is anything like I-Ninja then I'll check it out.

Posted by Shadow

Everyone keeps saying it reminds them of I-Ninja.  however, having beaten that game twice, I am here to tell you that this IS I-Ninja!  Everything from the enemy design to the animation style...

Posted by Dots

Ninjas... Panda... Awesome!

Posted by hyperslug
Posted by Scratch

Damn, I hope this doesn't delay Hitman 5.

Posted by Sinars

JESUS FUCK WHAT HAVE THEY DONE!?!

The worst thing about this whole ordeal is that I'll still buy this piece of JESUS WHAT THE FUCK just to financially support IOI so they can get the next Hitman out the door. :(

Posted by Weltal

So, wait, are they mini Ninjas or are those giant monsters? Because it looked to be the former? Is it simply incidental that they are called mini Ninjas but are facing giant enemies? Hmmm.

Posted by Callumrides

the panda looks cute  <3

Posted by Ouroboros

Probably been said, but looks like I-Ninja

Posted by floodiastus

This looks like crap, or is it WII graphics?

Posted by Preacher

I wanna see Jeff's review of this game as a reprisal of his Kayne and Lynch review:

"This is an ugly, ugly game... er wait, I mean a cute, cute game."

Posted by RipTheVeins

yet another medium emphasizing that Panda's are friendly and you should walk up to them and give them a big hug...when will they every learn...

Posted by JackSukeru

Hm..Minjas huh?

Posted by Snail

HAAAAIII---- YA!

Posted by Pibo47

OMG. That is the cutest thing i have ever seen. damn.

Edited by ProfessorEss

I think it looks great.
Very happy to see the XBox 360 logo at the end of the trailer as I was kinda worried it was gonna be for the Wii only.

I always like to have a little "cute" to break the monotony of "grit".

Posted by starfox444

looks fun, I'd like to play as the flute playing one because I enjoy the song and would probably attempt a few headshots. The art style i quite like too.
