Mass Effect 2's Stolen Memory DLC Available Nowish

Interstellar cat burglar ready to join Shepard's galactic wrecking crew for a nominal fee.

BioWare posted an update on their Mass Effect 2 site yesterday, stating that "tomorrow"--which if my math is correct should at this point mean "today"--you'll be seeing the availability of Stolen Memory, the first substantive paid DLC for the game so far. The pack is out on the same platforms as the original game, 360 and PC.

Near as I can tell, the 560 MS points ($7) asking price gets you the shady con artist/cat burglar Kasumi Goto for your squad, as well as a new custom mission to play through in order to ensure her loyalty. But don't take my word for it; watch this video to get a glimpse of what's in there.

I can't say I'm quite ready to go back to Mass Effect 2 just yet. A new squad member would be pretty slick if I were still plowing through the main game, but once you've done just about everything there is to do, new crew members aren't good for much. But I figure Kasumi might just make an appearance in my eventual Insanity playthrough, right before Mass Effect 3 rolls around (whenever that is).

Her loyalty missions looks to be worth the price more than Kasumi herself.

Show me cat burglar!

seems cool, but I have to finish the game first o.0'

Posted by Creamypies

I don't see it yet.

If games ever stop coming out, I may just download this.

Edited by jos1ah

I agree with Bradley.  I'll go back to it when there's more substantial DLC than this. It probably won't last an hour.  Bring it, Bioware.

Posted by Kuruption84

I'm pretty sure this will come out tomorrow like all of the of M$ DLC.

Posted by sho76und3wd

I just beat the game! Would of probably picked this up, but I'm not going to be replaying it soon.  Maybe when this DLC drops in price I will pick it up.

Posted by Luke

Does this mean my S-Rank is going away soon on Giant Bomb?

Posted by Shuborno

I'm in the middle of my Insanity playthrough, so I'll definitely be picking this up today.  I hope she's useful in combat because combat on Insanity can get pretty hairy!

Posted by CitizenKane

If I wasn't so busy with other games right now and if my brother didn't have my copy of Mass Effect 2, I would probably be downloading this right now.

what the hell happened to the promise of free DLC for the cerberus network? i mean i prolly get it anyway but yeah.

We got two weapons, Zaeed, Normandy Crash Site, an armor set, and a set of vehicle missions for free.

Yep. 15 point achievement associated with it.

Ehhh, I've put all the time I want to into ME2. Even if I play it again, I'm not finding it lacking in content or needing another party member (there were so many I never used to begin with).

I just got through recruiting Tali in my game, so I'm still in the throes.  I'm oddly skeptical about this even though I was fine with Pinnacle Station.  I'd love to see a review of this before I buy it.

I would think that will never happen, price drop on DLC that is.

I'm excited for it. Even though I won't play it right away.

Maybe not permanent but there are sales.  Fallout 3 DLC was half price a while ago.  It could also be something like Gears 2: All Fronts where they put all of the DLC in a package for a lower price.  This thing has 1 achievement, they're probably planning on doing a bunch of them.

Cool. I am glad that I haven't finished the game so she can come along for a ride.

Not a heavy toll on my wallet, but still...

Oh well, I'm going back to Mass Effect 2 every so often so I can really (And I mean REALLY) slowly complete the insanity difficulty for the sole purpose of the DLC and achievements.
My logic is: If I go through the game VERY slowly, and whilst doing so, I buy the DLC straight away, because it's still appropriate and helpful to me, since I'm still playing through the main game I save myself a LOT of time from having to playthrough it again and again, JUST to experience the DLC.

ME2 is a fantastic game, but I've only got a finite amount of time to play games with. This's a good solution to that problem. :-)

Posted by rpgobjects

I'll probably pick it up, but might wait for other DLC to be released.  The website seems to imply 2 or 3 more characters/missions to come.  I'm half way through insanity play through, but I took a break to play Dragon Age.

Posted by Titl

I'll get this for keeping my S-rank

Posted by SonicFire

I'm guessing this will be a few minutes long like all other Bioware expansions and DLC.

Bring down the sky: 5 bucks = 1 hour
Pinnacle Station: 5 bucks = 1 hour (and a miserable one at that)
Warden's Keep: 7 bucks = 45 minutes
Return to Ostagar: 5 bucks = 1 hour
Dragon Age Awakening: 40 bucks = 10 hours

I guess I'll eventually buy it, but seriously, I always feel like I paid way too much for their DLC.

Posted by Death_Unicorn

It's not out?

Posted by Jedted

I wonder if they'll do a QL of this, whenever it finally goes up that is.  I understand that Brad isn't really feeling it but maybe one of the other Bombers will be up for it.
Posted by borgmaster

they said it would be out the 6th. they are liars.

That pretty much sums up how I feel about it.  DLC looks good but I think I'll wait til they release a few more missions before picking it up.

Posted by Milkman

Wait, I'm confused. I can download the DLC and then just fly the Normandy to the mission, even on my cleared save, right? I don't have to start a new play through or anything dumb like that?

Posted by dagas

This would have been cool had I not already finished the game twice. I'll play it at some point though, but it's not enough to pull me back right away. Loved the game, but I rather they made a large expansion or focused on ME3 rather than these small 30-60min DLC's.

Kind of sucks that I'll have to start a new game to play it.

But of course, I will :D

Posted by Winternet

Any lame excuse for me to play Mass Effect 2 is welcome. God, that game is good.

Posted by s7evn

Don't think I'll dish out $7 for a new teammate. Hopefully there's some more worthwhile dlc on the way

Posted by HatKing

I'm pretty much in the same boat as Brad.  I've beaten the game and all the side missions, I don't really care about an extra character right now.  I do think that mission looks interesting, but if the other loyalty missions are evidence of this then $7 is a lot to ask.
Posted by Branthog

I assume it's 'free' if you already have cerberus? Not that it matters, since I beat the game the week it came out and I have no interest in going back to play game content that they couldn't bother to include at the time.

Posted by OJ

I think 560 MS points is a fair price considering the amount of free DLC so far, def ready for more ME2.

Posted by GeekDown

I'm replaying the ending of ME2 since a bunch of my crew died, so I might just get this.

Posted by Floppypants

I'll buy this assuming there's an achievement for it.  I didn't spend all that time beating this on Insanity to lose my S-Rank that quick.

Edited by Garrus

I just checked recently and on my Xbox it still is NOT out yet.

As I said in the other thread, god damn Bioware couldn't you guys have had the courtesy to at least keep up with the rest of the world so we may actually get to play it before midnight maybe?

Either way when it comes out, I'll likely have it on my mess-around save, now I completed the game I just go round exploring with nothing better to do.

Yeah that is what I meant.  They always have half-price deals and what not.  By that time, I'll be ready to play again.

You don't have to start a new game, if you already completed the main story then you can just pick it up from there.  The continuity may be a little messed up but atleast they give you the option.

While I would definitely appreciate more substantial expansion-like DLC than this, an additional party member and new missions should be enough to give anyone who remotely liked ME2 a reason to get back in the action, if only for a limited period of time. I can't really understand the "this looks nice but I've already played the game" sentiment expressed by a lot of people; if you liked the game you'll want a few more hours out of it, right? Sure, there are other games to play (I recently played through FFXIII, am enjoying GOW3 at the moment and got SMT: Strange Journey on the DS and GTA: Chinatown Wars on the PSP, so I pretty much know all there is to know about "having moved on"), but no one is too busy to squeeze in 1,5-2 hours more of gametime with one of this year's greatest releases - even if one has already (like I have) S-ranked the game and played through it on both Normal and Insanity.

More excitement for Kasumi is hereby mandated for everyone (except if the DLC turns out to suck, in which case I'm going to look slightly ridiculous). Assuming control of all whiny jaded bastards...

...speaking of whiny; WHERE IS MY DLC?

Posted by LeBart

I want Mass Effect 2 : Awakening. I'm not going back just for an hour long mission. That's pointless.
Better than a gun I guess but come on Bioware, give us a real expansion !

Posted by Binman88

$7 for a single new member and one mission? That doesn't sound like a good deal to me.

Posted by End_Boss

I'm not sure if a new squad mate is enough on its own to pull me back into ME2. Why isn't BioWare doing some post-main-plot DLC like they did for Dragon Age? Are they just unwilling to retcon players' experiences?

Posted by Garrus
@End_Boss:  I always wondered whether BioWare seemed to be focusing too hard on Dragon Age, so far we've only had DLC that seems useless to most people overall with Mass Effect saves that are already post-story completion.
Posted by nail1080

560? for 1 new character and a 10 minute mission, I'll pass.... but suckers who will buy it just for the acheev will make Bioware alot of easy money...

Posted by papercut

Grrr....If she ends up being like Zaheed I'm 'a be pissed. I'll buy it. Been meaning to do a second playthrough anyway.

Edited by rjayb89

Lovin' the BioWare Social Network.  So many people up in arms over the availability of this insignificant piece of content.

Posted by Jeffk38uk

Part of me is not sure to be quite honest. If it's anything like Zaeed, then the mission will be interesting but you get little to none continued character development outside of missions which was the main annoyance.

We'll see I guess.
