Please Keep Buying Guitar Hero Games

If we all work together, we can stop the Guitar Hero movie menace dead in its tracks.

Brett Ratner, Dragonforce aficionado.
In case you missed it, Brett Ratner, the slimy looking dude responsible for directing movies like Rush Hour, Rush Hour 2, and Rush Hour 3 was recently quoted as saying he wanted to make a Guitar Hero movie.

I believe, at the time, I was all "what?" I mean, sure, I see how you could take Guitar Hero and turn it into some sort of rags-to-riches story where a kid gets really good at playing Welcome to the Jungle in a video game and then has to fill in for Slash at the last minute at an actual concert because Slash is too high/drunk/dead. Success ensues and the virtual guitarist becomes a real rock star! Because we all know that playing Rock Band or Guitar Hero is JUST LIKE THE REAL THING.

Anyway, Defamer was at the MTV Video Music Awards last night and took some time with Ratner to ask him a bit more about it. He (probably correctly) hypothesizes that Activision would never let him do it while the series is still such a success.

I don't know about you, but that was enough to make me file a pre-order for Guitar Hero: World Tour.

Check out Defamer for a video of the interview. Check out any retailer that sells video games to go buy Guitar Hero: World Tour and do your part for the cause.

Ugh. Can someone say "generic?"

Your movie synopsis was hilariously accurate.  I'm still holding out for the Max Payne movie to be good.

thats gross

I'm all for it, if it has Jackie Chan...no Chris Tucker though.

wow, I had already heard of this, but I didn't think that the guitar hero game would actualy be in the movie. I thought it would be about a guitar hero himself. If someone is actually playing GH in th movie will someone please shoot me? I wonder what console the boy will play it on?

a part of me just died.

anyway, I wounder if he saw the GH episode on south park and thought "wow, I could totally turn that into a movie" or maybe, JUST maybe he actually beleives it has potencial

Aw, man best movie plot!

Posted by Aaron_G

I think that would be the dumbest movie ever.

I'm feeling lazy, so I'm just going to copy-paste the comment I left on another site regarding this story:

Who cares if he does make one? I can't see how a Guitar Hero film would have any connection to the videogame franchise anyway, it's not like there's some sort of rich backstory to be abused or whatever. Just what should we expect? A segment portraying a live performance of someone wielding a fake plastic Gibson whilst a note chart scrolls along the bottom of the screen? Yeah, that'd be awesome. *I* should direct it.

The article is written like anyone *but* Brett Ratner could make a decent movie out of it, which frankly is utter shite.

Nobody and I mean NO-BODY needs to make a Guitar Hero Movie.

If they want a Guitar Hero Segment in a movie completely unrelated to Guitar Hero, then go for it. But we don't need a movie completely centered around a Rhythm Game played with plastic instruments.

I'll be doing my part to ensure this does not come to pass. GH:WT AND RB2 will be mine.

Two words.... EPIC FAIL

no..... please..... no.

GH isn't a Guitar sim, its a rhythm game..

I would rather light my own guitar on fire than see a trailer for that movie.

Don't fall for it Jeff! They paid this guy to say this so that people will buy all of the GH games to make sure that it stays a success.

Apparently I'm far removed from the child who once nearly shat his pants because of The Wizard, because I read this and I was all, "what.. the fuck?"

Posted by swamplord666

I just see the south park "guitar queer-o" but with real people

Posted by Doc_Zaius

how does buying MORE Guitar Hero make this LESS likey?

Posted by CleverLoginName

It'll be like This is Spinal Tap if you remove all the cool/funny bits.

Posted by asian_pride

I think this would be the dumbest idea Ratner has ever come up with. They should also find another director for God of War. That's just terrible...

My only question is...when can we expect a Sim City movie from this guy?!  IT WOULD BE SHEER GENIUS.

Posted by roofy

Brett Ratner is still a threat

Endorsing Guitar Hero? Lets see what Alex has to say about that!

Betrayed!

Kotaku is rumor-mongering that Mark Burnett (creator of The Apprentice, Survivor, and some other shit) might MIGHT be woking on a Rock Band reality show.  Awesome.
