Redesigned 360 Revealed, Built In Wi-Fi And 250 Gig Hard Drive

And all for just $300!

Those italians were right on the money. At the end of the Microsoft E3 Press Conference, Executive Don Mattrick announced that the rumored Xbox 360 redesign was officially happening. How happening, you ask? The redesigned 360 is shipping to retailers today, and will be out this week. Not since the Sega Saturn launched at the end of Sega's E3 Press Conference in 1995 has a piece of announced hardware made it to retail shelves so quickly.

The major upgrades to the 360 include it's smaller form factor and built-in wi-fi (finally, the 360 catches up to the Nintendo DS). The 360 redesign also ships with a 250 gig hard drive inside of it's smaller-footprint shape. The new black box will run you $300 dollars. That's the same price of the retail 360 with a 120gig hard drive. And that one doesn't even have wi-fi! Think of the savings! Of course, Microsoft's Kinect hardware will be compatible with the 360 redesign.

Here's the trailer for the hardware revision went up on the Xbox 360 once the Press Conference was over.

Remember, you can only see that new Xbox trailer on an Xbox you already own. That's dark irony at work.

What do ay think, folks? Interested in picking up the new 360?

I still have my xbox 360 from 2006...the one without the hdmi, a 20gb hard drive, and a noisy fan.

I might upgrade.

Give me a voucher and/or a reasonable trade-in price for my current X360, and MAYBE Micro-stiffed can have my money. A wee bit bitter? Yes.

If my Elite Breaks I will get one but I do not need this. I can see why lots of people will get it though and good on MS for putting the effort in.

They redesigned it without a blu-ray drive? This was their chance and they have blown it.

I have no choice, my current xbox died about a week ago. I couldn't even finish Just Cause 2. So I will be buying one as soon as my clients pay me.

What about getting rid of the need for those stupid batteries in the controller? Make it USB just like PS3 and everything else.

I can't help but feel like this is crap. It's essentially a regular Xbox, the way it should've been built in the first place, with all the overpriced HDDs and Wifi adapters built in. So its market is really limited to: 1) Hardcore Xbox fans, 2) People whose Xboxes die constantly (not a good thing), 3) Wii owners looking to move up. The first one is a limited market, the second is an embarrassing market, and the third will be reduced substantially by the increased price point. A lot of Wii owners hopped to the 360 because both consoles were $199.99. Now if they're serious enough to make that push, they'll have a solid reason to weigh the PS3 vs. the 360.

It may be pleasing to game fans, but from a business standpoint, it just makes no damn sense. No new HDDs for older consoles (their largest market,) no Arcade model to intice Wii-owners to move up to the 360, no major changes outside of not sounding like a jet engine and hopefully not overheating (both of which it shouldn't have done in the first place.) I don't like it.

The design really reminds me of those old Alienware PCs. I may temporarily fix my red-lighted 360 and trade it in for this lol.

Anybody else pissed that they are going to HAVE to upgrade to this (once stock of the original 360 is gone)  if their current console dies and you can't just drop $150-$200 on an arcade since the old HD won't work with this + you'll need to drop an additional $20 for the transfer cable?

Thinking of getting this instead of just buying a 250 GB HD for the 360 I have now.

That is what the Play & Charge kit is, except the cord is actually long enough to allow you to play games while you charge unlike the PS3.

I have put up my 360 on eBay. I might not actually sell it if I don't get a good amount, but ideally I will only have to pay around $80 for this new 360.

Yeah, but unlike Microsoft, where you actually have to buy a proprietary cable from them, Sony has a standard USB cable that I bought online for like 1.60 for a 15 foot cable.  I would rather a company use open sandards because then it is just easier and you have less clutter around the house being that my phone charges with a USB cord as well, as do other devices.

After seeing the E3 report I was able to pick one up through knowing people and shear luck as its back ordered at Best Buy already.  Just the reduction of noise alone is making it worth the buy.  Plus I was already at the 120 GB limit so the new hard drive space is a headache saver!
