Sony Dropping Mad Details On Sucker Punch's InFamous

Release date, box art, demo... it's a veritable clearing house of information!

Wondering when Sucker Punch's gritty, open-world, superhero/anti-hero PS3 action game InFamous is coming out? (Wondering how many adjectives I can use to describe it?)

I can answer at least one of those questions: The game's out in June, according to a post on the PlayStation.Blog. Producer Greg Phillips also confirmed a demo will precede the release, though specifics of what and when are still forthcoming. Lastly, they sent out the final box art, which you'll notice I've repurposed below for our own sinister uses.

Where's your interest level in InFamous at this point? For a refresher, check out the latest trailer we posted earlier in the week, which I have to say looks pretty slick. I love the graphic novel-style cutscenes. Now that Killzone 2 is out, this is probably the biggest first-party PS3 release on the horizon for the time being.

Don't know what to think of it yet. More intrigued by Prototype, as far as similar games go.

So that's where Sheperd went.

Protoype seems better but not by much, could go either way

While the game looks interesting, it'll have to be an amazing game for me to pick it up. Sorry, I just have so much games to play... and by that I obviously mean Killzone 2 multiplayer.  It's Call of Duty 4 all over again... sigh.

Looks good so far, but it will probably just be a rental for me.

I only own a PS3 and I really don't give a crap about inFAMOUS...like at all.  I haven't looked at a single screenshot or video besides that cover art.  I'm replaying GTA IV and having a blast doing it, even without the DLC.  Hell, my gaming habits usually include buying games I should have played but never did...I just picked up God of War I/II and have been playing through those on my PS2.  I guess I'm in the minority.

I am torn on this.  While I think all the videos I see look great, and most likely the game will be awesome, I don't think I can convince myself to either be really excited about the game or be excited to buy it.  I don't know why.

Posted by JoelTGM

It looks interesting, but if all you do is spam electric lightning attacks over and over I'll probably leave it as a rental.

Posted by DJDarkViper

im looking forward to it. looks like a great way to kill off a weekend with a buddy.

Im also excited for one other selfish reason though: Sucker Punch has said that once InFAMOUS was done, they'd  mostly likely return to Sly Cooper :D

This reminds me of the Psi-Ops / Second Sight fiasco from several years ago.  Two games that shared many similarities and mechanics, but caused confusion in the consumer base and ended up making both games sell poorly.  After it was all over, both games were quite good, and offered up enough differences to make each a pretty good game but only the bargain bin gamers benefited.

This and Prototype seem like very similar games, have the same kind of style, and both are made by competent developers.  But it looks like once again the consumer is confused as to which one is which and i nthe end both will hurt each others' sales.  The best thing they can do is make their respective game as good as it can be and try to release them as far apart as possible.  Infamous made a good choice in changing up how the character looks, before they both had the hoodie and skulked around in the shadows, now there is at least some way to tell the mapart at first glance.

Getting back to Psi-Ops, Midway should totally make another, it was pretty damn good game that could do well with some new graphics.

I'm looking forward to Dark Void more just because we've got more info on that one from the recent GB interview. Get a closer look at this game and I might get hyped. Otherwise, I'll just leave it up to the demo (and demos usually don't sell me on games).

Zapping people with lightning might get repetitive, but I'll certainly check it out. Here's hoping they go back to Sly Cooper with their next game, my pants are abulge with thoughts of how great that game would look on PS3 hardware. And yes, abulge is a real word, I just created it today.

I'm looking forward to it, but I'm afraid that it might get overlooked. Like with a lot of games, I think that the $60 price will likely kill it as many people with limited funds will buy other games. If it were at a lesser price, they would sell tremendously more of them. Not to sound cheap or anything...

i need to play this game to really see how this game is. from the look of it, it seems kinda fun, but might be too repetitive. idk, im just gonna wait till the demo comes out and see....

I have to say, that is one of the coolest box arts I've seen in a good long while, this should have been the starwars game all along, zaaping dudes with lightning, who needs a saber when you can electrify stuff ^^.

Had some nice looking cuts, but watching the gameplay trailer didnt really make me want to play it.

Posted by HorrorJunkie

This looks insipidly boring.

Posted by papercut

Id buy a ps3 for this

Posted by Venatio

This game looks amazing and I want it but I only have one concern and thats about its length, I hope that its a lengthy game

Posted by shadows_kill

seems to have really mixed opinions..

the game looks really good (also its made by sucker punch which made the awesome series sly cooper :P ) but i wish the boxart was better........

Posted by The_Icon

@ HorrorJunkie - of course it is to you, u dont have a ps3 and your a 360 fan boy ( ur colors say it all!).

Posted by Moridin

If the framerate is good, I'm sold. All the videos I've seen (obviously demo / pre-release code) it hasn't seemed all that great. But that can, and hopefully will, change!

Posted by KinjiroSSD

It's hard to say whether prototype or infamous will be better but I'm going to say infamous solely based on Sucker Punch's reputation.

Posted by scottp

looks like Sargent forge from halo wars.

Posted by Duckbutter

those boss-chick gameplay clips for this game on Gametrailers killed it for me. it showed how cheesy the dialogue really is and how basic and cliche the gameplay is.

Posted by TwoOneFive

i think its obvious that since this comes from a developer with an excellent history of platformers that this game will be fun and also be more fun than prototype.

"This reminds me of the Psi-Ops / Second Sight fiasco from several years ago.  Two games that shared many similarities and mechanics, but caused confusion in the consumer base and ended up making both games sell poorly."

Those 2 games sold poorly because they were Psi-Ops and Second Sight. Prototype and inFamous have a little bit more marketing muscle and name recognition to get them by than those 2 games.

Right now I don't really care much about. Though the latest trailer is pretty cool I'm still not feeling it. Perhaps when we're closer to its release this will change.

Posted by Kohe321

This looks interesting. I hope it turns out to be a good game!

*patiently waits for review*

Posted by Erdie

I'm definitely buying it, but mainly due to the developer's past works.  I still don't know much about it, but it's Sucker Punch!  They wouldn't let me down!

Posted by spilledmilkfactory

i think infamous looks good, although i'm not a big fan of the boxart. his torso looks oversized...

Posted by insanegamer

i can't wait for this game so i will buy it day 1. the box art is so cool.

Posted by FlipperDesert

Looks alright to me, I'd probably get it if I was certain to have a PS3 by then.

Posted by lordofultima

Looks slightly more pimp than Prototype, this could be my next PS3 game (gasp).

Posted by vinsanity09

don't know about this game, it seems very boring from the videos that I've seen, we'll see if the demo can prove me wrong

Posted by Deusoma

The game was originally described to me as "It's like Grand Theft Auto, but you have superstrength and can fly." That sounded awesome. Turns out the game is really about a guy who has nothing but electricity-based powers. Now that's cool and all, but still not as cool as Superman GTA. I'm still not sure whether I'm going to get this game or not.

Crackdown started a whole new trend of super hero sandbox games now.

What sinister use?

Posted by JackSukeru

I went back and played some Sly2 a while ago and I gotta say that the quality of that game gives me high hopes for this one. Still, I'm not a fan of open world games so it's reassuring that there will be a demo out before it's release.

Posted by ZombiePie

I just want to know why they picked electricity. Why not go wth all of the classical elements (air, fire, earth, ect.)? Oh well. Sucker Punch has had a great track record so far, I'll keep this on my horizon.

I'll be passing on this one by the looks of it. (things may change as more info comes to light)

I was counting how many responses there would be before "Prototype" was mentioned. It was mentioned in the first.

Posted by PenguinDust

I don't know. InFamous looks more like a shooter, in principle, while Prototype is more in line with brawlers.  I'm more intrigued by Prototype right now, but that could change.  It's all so far away, I'm not going to worry about it.  Hell, by then Champions Online maybe out and all my superhero needs will be satisfied until Crackdown 2.

Posted by ElectricHaggis

I'll be interested to see how the game is recieved.  Right now, I'm fairly optimistic and will peobably get the game when it comes out.

Posted by RHCPfan24

This game looks very cool. I still don't know how many types of games like this we need (Prototype is on the way), but it looks very interesting and the box art is pretty sweet.

Posted by Jayzilla

I believe this and Prototype will both play out as follows: 8-12 hours of game play, great graphics, one will have a better storyline than the other(but not as good as Star Wars: The Force Unleashed) and no multiplayer. So in a nutshell, great rental material for the game that has the better story.

Edited by Keeng

This is probably on everyone's "wait and see" list for 09. It looks like it'll be fine but it may not be the type of game people are looking for nowadays. Either way, I'm interested. It has a great developer behind it and they seem to care about the story and the characters more than just the action, a rarity today in video games.

Still on the fence on this. Looks like one of them games that either turns out to be a hit or flops like a fish outta water. *cough Lair cough*
