Ubisoft Announces Beyond Good & Evil Downloadable HD Rerelease

You liked it the first time, so why not check it out again?

Low sales, poor awareness, and overproduction of 2003's Beyond Good & Evil likely led to the PC version of the Zelda-style game becoming a pack-in offer with Cheese Heads string cheese in 2009. Ironically, these same factors are probably playing roles in today's much more positive news about BG&E. No, it's not more information about the long-awaited sequel, but according to IGN and Destructoid, Ubisoft has announced plans to rerelease BG&E as an HD Xbox Live Arcade and PSN downloadable in 2011, giving the underperforming title one more shot at becoming the hit it apparently deserved to be (sans cheese).

Keeping with the current rerelease trend, BG&E's models and textures will be receiving a resolution bump, bringing the game up to 1080p. The game's soundtrack is being re-mastered, too, and new achievements/trophies and leaderboard support are being added on top of the core game.

It's being reported that Ubisoft is leaving the game alone otherwise, meaning you won't be seeing any bug fixes or tweaks on the game's aging systems and mechanics. If this is indeed the case, and you do happen to hit one of the few trouble spots (like the slaughter house) at some unspecified point in 2011, just look at it this way: you contributed to giving BG&E 2 a legitimate chance to be a real thing, and your hands didn't even end up smelling like cheese in the process! That's great! I think!
