Warner Bros. Issues Statement on Catwoman DLC Issues

The launch of Batman: Arkham City hasn’t been totally smooth, with some copies of the game either not including codes for the Catwoman downloadable content (which is acting as the game’s online pass equivalent) or the codes included simply not working.

If you’re going to make things more complicated for the customer, especially ones buying new, at least get it right, you know?

Warner Bros. claims this issue has affected less than 0.5% of total shipped copies, but given how many people were incensed at how Warner Bros. handled the news of Catwoman to begin with, it’s not a surprise those scorned have been pretty vocal about it.

“While the number of affected versions is very small, WB Games apologises for any inconvenience this has caused and we are committed to getting these issues resolved as quickly as possible,” said the company on its customer service website.

The publisher is asking players to call customer support at 410-568-3680, email support@wbgames.com, or visit community.batmanarkhamcity.com/support.

There have also been reports of the downloadable content itself being corrupted upon download, but Warner Bros. has not made an official comment yet. I downloaded it myself last night without issue, amidst PlayStation Network sluggishness.

Ick...I know these systems all have their own technical miscue's from time to time, but in this situation it sort of feels lazy that every game didn't include a Catwoman dlc code at the very least. That's one thing that they had to get right and they didn't completely deliver on it, so it's understandable that people are pretty upset with Warner Bros.

Just make it free for everyone warner bros. Who was it, ubi last time that screwed up and did this? This has to be one of the worst releases for one of the best games in a long time. Mountains of pre-order dlc specific to retailers, cat woman announced many months before launch then clarifying what she actually was, missing/messed up codes. So what the hell is up with Robin anyway? Later dlc? I'm not sure, could never tell if that was a pre-order bonus or not. I have to wait a few weeks before I can play my copy.

So warner Bros. lock away a part of the main story on a code on a piece of paper they then don't bother to give you the piece of paper....Just great bravo

If my code doesn't work I'll never buy another new game published by WB.

They should at least to the same as Ubisoft did with the latest Driver game, and make that DLC free for everyone.

Never buy a new game from them again? That's harsh, now the preorder stuff is complete bullshit but if future games are as good as Arkham City is then I will certainly purchase it. If the disc based stuff works fine but the dlc doesn't work ill take it up with the company and MAKE SURE I get what i am promised and for the inconvenience I will demand more in return, its only fair on their part to give more to those this has effected, luckily for me i wasn't one of these unfortunate people so Ill take my game and say good day to this article, but thanks for the heads up

I had that DLC is corrupted issue. They handled that whole thing fucking terribly. The game claimed that all of the DLC that was downloaded was corrupted. The other issue is that each time a piece of DLC finished downloading, you would get kicked out to the main menu, which is where you were told that that piece of DLC was corrupted and you were then forced to go to the main console menu (dashboard, XMB). The weird thing about all of that is that the DLC was actually never corrupted in the first place. I went back into the game and everything was fine.

It may sound minor but it's fucking annoying to have to deal with that bullshit when you payed for a new copy and just want to play some motherfuckin batman.

You know what is also pretty awful? The fact that some of the achievements are Robin specific, but I currently have no way to use Robin because I didn't buy it from Best Buy.

All this malarkey with the DLC makes me just want to wait a year and buy the GOTY Edition.

@LJO1989: It's actually not on the disc. This doesn't justify what they did and I personally think that it should be on the disc because I want to play the game now instead of waiting for shit to download but ya, some of that DLC is not on the disc. The catwoman and joker carnival thing isn't on the disc.

My code worked with no problem. Downloaded nice and quick, on the 360.

I got a blank code thingy and emailed WB. Hope this gets fixed quickly.

You know, as a long time PC gamer, this is nothing new. I remember quite a few cases where CD-Keys were missing, garbled, or incorrect on a small number of games, rendering the entire game unusable until it is fixed.

I'm not excusing them, but I think the whole industry should take a long hard look at it's distribution methods concerning these codes, and possibly add some quality control to the process.

Ironic that the only way to ensure you get the code when you purchase the game is to buy it used at Game Stop where they print the codes on your receipt. This needs to show how bogus Project $10 has become.

Catwoman was broken for me. Crashed the game and cloned her in cut scenes (I could walk around as her while the cinema version of her was stand still talking).

Totally wrecked one of the best intro scenes I have ever played.

This kind of stuff doesn't encourage me to buy a game new. It discourages me from buying the game at all.

Just called WB costumer service, kept on hold for 20 mins and after that talked to someone. Then got emailed code. Great CSR!!!!

I can't even get the game to start. I installed it on my HDD. I go to run the game, and it appears to begin loading. Then, I get the "Disconnected from Xbox Live" notice, I assume to install a day 1 patch, but it freezes right there and locks up my 360. I don't even get the option to install the patch like any other time a patch is available. I'm going to try it will disconnected from Live next.

EDIT: Nope, doesn't even load if logged out. Just goes to a black screen and the drive just spins and spins until I manually turn it off. What crap.

EDIT 2: Had to uninstall it to get it to work. Patch downloaded and applied and game booted to menu. I'm trying to re-install it to the HDD now.

Surprised that this sort of thing doesn't happen more often.

May this message serve as a warning, on the ps3 i started downloading the catwoman dlc. Since i didnt want to wait to start, i said "fuck it, it'll be fine!" and started playing. Well, after i installed the catwoman dlc, it corrupted my game data. I had to reinstall everything, and re-download the catwoman dlc. Pain in my ass, but at least it didnt corrupt my save games.

Not to mention it has nothing to do with pre-ordering. This is basically Project $10 (or registration codes with benefits if your old school).

@HarrySound: Its not pre-order bullshit. Its first copy bullshit. which is fine in my opinion because I never buy games old.

@nick_verissimo: Agreed. Its amazing that alot of these things are possible at all. The thing with them not being included in the box sounds like some bullshit on the packaging end that seems more odd than lazy.

@benjaebe: Why? Because some technology that is not predictably scalable caused less than a percent of users to have issues. And they're aware of the issue and trying to fix it.

Kinda worried now. It took sooooo long to download both the Catwoman and the Robin DLC on the 360 that by the time those four hours were up I couldn't be bothered playing it. It kept kicking me out of XBL during the download, I hope it's not broken.

This is just purrfect.

I'm starting to regret my purchase. Really don't want to support this kind of thing.

Sweet! I just bought this blu-ray copy of the new X-Men movie! Oh hey, it comes with a code that I need to download to see the last half hour of the movie. Now, the code doesn't work, and I have to call the publisher in order to see the last half-hour of the movie that I just payed good money to see but I can't because of a bullshit DLC code that doesn't fucking work.

Glad I cancelled my PS3 preorder. Will get this on Steam and play with my 2xGeforce 560ti and 360 controller.

@Vortextk: Now I have to call them and sit on hold for 20 minutes, then complain about how the code doesn't work. The service lady will right down my name and email, and will promise me that a code will be sent to my email address. Wait another 20 minutes before that happens. Now, I've got the code! The download will now take a good two to three hours. Now I can finally enjoy this product I bought at 2:00 A.M.

Also, the Catwoman thing just should have been on the disc, even if you need a code to unlock it.

Retail used games are making Gamestop rich and hurting developers, so I understand the Project-$10 thing, but FFS whatever you do, make sure you don't screw over your preferred customers. This shit is starting to look like DRM in terms of screwing the legit users.
