Wii Price Drop: $199.99, September 27

OK, well that's officially official now.

I have a Wii.
If you were really paying attention, you've probably already seen a zillion scans of retailer fliers showing that a Wii price drop was in the works. Nintendo has made it official today via a press release. The offering will feature the same package that is currently on shelves, giving you one Remote, a Nunchuk, and a copy of Wii Sports to go with your friendly white game device.

The company also took the time to reiterate some bits about its upcoming games, noting that Wii Fit Plus is out on October 4 and that New Super Mario Bros. Wii will be available on November 15. Jeff Gerstmann on Google+

Still costs too much.

They need to get the Wii under 50 bucks.
Not because I don;t like it. It's because 50 dollars would be awesome for the Wii.
And then I can say, "Under 50 bucks?!"

Posted by LtColJaxson

I would only buy it if Fisher Price was on board.

Do I hear $39.99? $42? It's official, the MSRP of the Wii is now $44.34!! Come on, no need to get anything else, Darkest of Days is more expensive than that for godsakes.

Remember when the Wii was supposed to LAUNCH at 200 bones?

Posted by PhilESkyline

It needs to be $149.99 period.

Posted by Xeiphyer

Still too expensive.. Its last generation technology with any games worth playing being very few and far between. I haven't touched my wii in almost a year I suppose

Posted by supermike6

Already bought a Wii two years ago, forgot about it a year later.

I already sold mine... so I may get it again only if they put out a new Zelda ... but it has to set new standars like Ocarina of Time did back in the day...

Wish I held off on getting a Wii...

Eh.

But will a price cut fix the suck?  No, no it will not.

Posted by PhaggyBigNastyMcKill

i gotta wii

Posted by jakob187

And of COURSE this would pull the trolls out of their caves.

HOWEVER, I almost have to agree.  Now that the PS3 is sitting at $299.99, it almost looks weird to see the Wii for $199.99.

Masturbation joke goes here.

Why does Giant Bomb bother covering the Wii? No one cares.

Hahahaha. Good Call.

You forgot to include the World of Nintendo events information. A bit more "new" than the Wii Fit Plus and NSMBWii stuff (which will be there).

Brilliant. Wii is going to clean house this Christmas.

Posted by Video_Game_King

Um....yay? I've no idea what the proper response should be.

Posted by LaszloKovacs

$200 is about $180 more than I am willing to pay for a Wii.

GameStop should just charge by the minute for people to use their demo units. They could charge a dollar a minute and I would have had all the Wii play I want in a year for about $10.

Posted by anamanaman

199 seems like a good price point. Given the price of the dollar vs the yen, expect 199 to be the price for a long long time.

Wow, the trolls are out in full force.

I wish I hated my Wii, so I could be part of the cool crowd. But alas, the Wii has been my favorite console this generation, leaving my Xbox 360 trailing behind.

I say the price is right on that now.  I thought $250 was kind of expensive when it first launched.

Edited by YetiAntics

$50 off huh? no thanks.

ill wait for another $50, and then get one used for $100.
Posted by bybeach

I wish suda 51 made their games for other consoles. Actually there has been a few games i will play, but at this point I  see myself owning a Wii ....

NEVER!

 hahahahaha..snrk!

About 50 million people care a little bit.  And the rest of us care about the few games a year that interest us.  No way in hell do I want thirty $50 Wii games a year on my shopping list. 3 or 4 is fine, and I get adequate mileage out of VC and WiiWare.

See, that's the "problem" when you own all the consoles.  You have so much choice you don't have time to bitch about the lack of choices.

$200 for a dust collector, no thank you lol

oh wait, i totally forgot i already have a Wii........Anyways Nintendo is definitely going to increase their sales

Posted by chron1c

i heard Jeff owns a Wii....

Cool, so NSMB Wii is coming out sooner than they originally said, well I expected a December release anyways when they said 'Holiday 2009.' It's about time the Wii had a price drop, I mean it will have been out for 3 years in November and it's just now dropping price for the first time. Just shows how well it's been selling.
Posted by MeatSim

This price drop isn't gonna stop the Wii in my house from continuing to gather dust.

Posted by AgentofChaos

Beatles Rock Band SE costs more.

Posted by catalystex

Good now bring over that black Wii bundle over to the US and I'll consider a purchase.

Posted by ghostNPC

Still cheaper to get a used one.

Posted by MasturbatingBear

 sweet deal.

Posted by agentboolen

They could do better.  I think they should try to bundle a game like Mario Kart with Wii Sports also just to sweeten the deal.  But yea Mario Kart bundled or not parents will still buy there kids it.

Posted by Jayzilla

the wii is cool like the NES was cool. the NES came out when I was 10 and I played the heck out of it til i was 15. If I were 10 now, I would totally want to own the Wii. Nintendo is smart, they go after there own demographic and it has paid off for them handsomely.

Posted by Hailinel

It's hilarious to see the trolls still trot out the "dust collector" and "no games" arguments.  Seriously, guys.  Find some new material.  You're getting lazy.

I want Muramasa bad, but I still refuse to buy a Wii at that price. $129.

i have a pc, ps3 and 360 that collect dust... because i don't go moving them around... only console that doesn't get much dust... my ds... because i handle it to play on it.

nice to see a price drop, but i don't have the money and time to make it worthwhile.   also, i have only seen 2 or 3 games that really got my attention.  i only have 4 retail boxes for my ps3.  maybe if they packed in more than wii sports...
