Wii U Appearing at CES Next Month, But Don’t Expect Much

The company won't have a booth, and the games won't be any different.

If you want to give Wii U a shot before launch, try sneaking into Nintendo's meeting room.

Nintendo hasn’t said much about Wii U since its unveiling at E3 this year, instead promising a completely new unveiling at E3 next year.

CNET reported today that Nintendo would be bringing Wii U to next month’s tech-heavy CES show in Las Vegas, Nevada, but that was supposed to happen last year, too. It just had a meeting room.

Wii U will be coming to CES 2012, but it won’t be making a big splash; the company won’t have a booth. The statement Nintendo released to me today makes it clear we should keep expectations in check.

“Nintendo of America, working with the 2012 International CES management, will offer demos of the upcoming Wii U console to members of the media who did not see the system at the 2011 E3 Expo. However, Nintendo will not have a booth at CES, nor does it plan to include any games, experiences or information beyond what was available at the 2011 E3 Expo. Production and development efforts remain on track for the Wii U launch, which will take place between the start of the 2012 E3 Expo in June, and the end of 2012.”

In other words, anyone who missed Wii U at E3 or didn’t attend the show can check out what those people already played. Nintendo told me the builds would be the same as they were this summer. I wouldn't mind checking out HD Zelda again...

And before you ask: we will not be at CES this year, but Tested will!
