On November 11, Minecraft will graduate from paid beta phenomenon to a shippable game. By its very nature, it's unlikely Minecraft will ever be truly "finished," but later this year, Minecraft will exit beta.
Creator Markus Alexej Persson, otherwise known as Notch, is already starting to contemplate how to celebrate the release of Minecraft. As it turns out, Las Vegas holds a special place in his heart, so he's started polling fans about the possibility of a first-ever MinecraftCon to be held in the heart of Sin City.
"We’re thinking about how to celebrate reaching the release on 2011/11/11," proposed Notch on his Tubmlr. "There’s also a significant lack of a MinecraftCon this year. Perhaps we can combine them?"
More than 44,000 people have participated in the poll so far, with only around 23% throwing support behind MinecraftCon in Nevada. Wondering if the United States was the right place to hold such an event, Notch proposed another poll with more locations. Of the nearly 10,000 who have voted there, there's hardly a consensus on what makes the most sense for MinecraftCon--assuming it even happens.
