    Description:

    A kindly old man. Depending on which game is played, his backstory and role will be different.

    Game Appearances:

    • Harvest Moon 64 - Lives a quiet life on Moon Mountain with his elderly wife. They run a small restaurant on the road up to the summit, which is only accessible after the bridge is fixed.
    • Harvest Moon: Back to Nature - Owner of Yodel Ranch in Mineral Town, where the protagonist can purchase various farm animals. He took in his granddaughter, May, when his daughter dropped her off one day, then abruptly left for the city. If the main character is friends with Manna, she will gossip that though Barley worries that he's too busy and too old to take care of May, if his daughter came back to claim her, he would refuse.
    • Harvest Moon: Friends/More Friends of Mineral Town - Same role as "Back to Nature", but his daughter is now named (Joanna).
    • Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town - Same Role as "Back to Nature" and "Friends of Mineral Town" series, but his name is changed to "Mugi" to reflect the original Japanese text.
