Dance Dance Revolution 2ndMix is the second installment in the Dance Dance Revolution franchise. It was first released as an arcade cabinet in January of 1999. This began the franchise's trend of a nearly biannual Japanese release schedule, which would continue through Dance Dance Revolution Extreme.
Gameplay
The gameplay of DDR 2ndMix remains largely the same as the original DDR. For more information, see Dance Dance Revolution gameplay. Home versions of the game include a step editing mode, which allows players to create custom stepcharts for any song in the game.
Releases
In addition to the original arcade machine, the game was also released in multiple forms on the Sony PlayStation and the Sega Dreamcast. The first home iteration of DDR 2ndMix for the PlayStation and Dreamcast featured previews of tracks from Dance Dance Revolution 3rdMix only available on Basic difficulty. They also featured the aforementioned step editing mode. Players could save their custom stepcharts and play them on specialized 2ndMix arcade machines with PlayStation memory card slots.
Club Versions
Dance Dance Revolution 2ndMix Club Versions were special versions of 2ndMix that could link with Beatmania IIDX. They had completely different track lists that took songs from IIDX. Home versions were also released for the PlayStation and the Dreamcast. The PlayStation version was split into two releases and require the original 2ndMix disc.
