    Hey Guys,

I'm looking to purchase Dragon Quest IV for DS, and I was just wondering would I like it if I like Chrono Trigger? (Seeing as both share the same designer).

    Thanks,

    -Epic

The main Dragon Quest games are strictly old school JRPG.  If you like old school JRPGs like me, then you will love it.

They're almost nothing at all alike to play.

Dragon Quest is more 'dry', less interesting concepts, more grinding.

Besides the fact that they're made by the same company (now), use the same artist (Akira Toriyama), and are both RPGs... they aren't really that similar.

Edit: Also, for the record, I really like Dragon Quest games, but I didn't really like Chrono Trigger. Take that for what you will.

Ok, I will boil it down to one question...

Is Dragon Quest IV a game, as a gamer, I should at least experience?

DQIV was pretty good, but if you're going to play one Dragon Quest game I'd make it DQ V, which is out for DS now I believe... It's a tossup between that and DQ 8 for best in the series imho.

What he said.  DQ 8 (for PS2) is one of my favorite RPGs of all time.

Yeah, gameplay wise 8 is superior but I like 5's story a lot. So tossup.

I haven't got Chrono Trigger - yet, but DQ IV is a really good game, that should be a fun experience in itself.  You can't really go wrong, but don't expect it to be the same - which is a good thing.

Although I love DQ VIII, it is a console game and not an either scenario.  If you have a PS2, get DQ VIII as well, not instead.

The one thing that really separates Chrono Trigger from any of the DQ games is the difficulty. DQ is a hardcore old school RPG series. You will have to do some pretty significant amounts of grinding from the very beginning.

I've played MMOs, I eat grind for breakfast (that makes no sense)

I'd go for it if I were you. I've heard many good things. FF4 is a solid choice, as well. If you have a PS2 check out DQ8.

Alcohol most likely.  Look around.  Are your clothes disheveled and is there perhaps a hooker beside you  :-)
