A few tips for defeating Death.

    1) Make sure you are a ranged vocation as I found melee to be pretty ineffective against Death. 2) Make sure your pawns are ranged offensive vocations. (You don’t need any healing for this fight. If you get hit your dead.) 3) To make the fight easier bring lots of magic boosting curatives (if you or your pawns are a magic vocation), blast arrows (if you are a bow and arrow based vocation), any curatives to snap you or your pawns awake if you get put to sleep, and maybe some liquid vim.

The strategy I used to beat him was to keep moving in a constant circle kiting Death around. The only time you should stop moving is when he is casting his lantern spell while making sure you are out of range of its effects. You almost NEVER should double back on him, meaning do not switch directions your moving or he will likely use his scythe and 1 shot you or your pawns. The only time switching directions seems to work is if he vanishes and reappears in front of you, then you should run the other way. If he manages to sleep any of your pawns, the best chance they have on not getting one shot by his scythe is for you to run far enough away so that Death will vanish and reappear closer to you, but away from your sleeping pawns. Other than that he isn’t really that hard. He just has a crap load of HP so it’s a tedious fight, but fairly simple.

I hope this helps! Good luck!

What you want is to be at least level 70 and have Odin preferably maxed out with ThunderReign and Elec boost skills. Make sure your party order is yourself, second party member, third party member, Death and then your last member. Use Thunder Reign to stun knock him down. And then use all out attack him with party member 2. Do NOT attack him with party member 3. This will make Death use a turn getting back up, so he cannot attack you. Your last character should heal/buff/debuff as necessary.

Keep doing this. If necessary, use your second member to heal on some turns after Thunder Reign to get your party back to normal, instead of attacking.

I admire you dedication to keeping your pawns alive but I found they were just too dumb to live. Running in front of Death only to begin casting heal or some long powerful spell and then they get cut. Not worth my time to baby sit those dummies.

As for regular fighting I used Patterned Gambeson (silver rare) combined with a restless earring to resist sleep completely then ran up to him and started slashing until he readied his scythe for the kill, then I just ran back. That was when I was playing as a fighter.

Another thing that helped me take off a few bars back when he scared the shit out of me was to use the blue torch/lanterns. I think it was in the third section of BBI (so after the Cursed Dragon + Wight) in the sewer area that almost always seemed to have Death lurking about and an ample amount of lanterns. Get him near one, then activate it.

The thing I disliked most about Death was how he would run away after taking about a bar of health. Made it so hard to beat him when I actually wanted to.

@demoskinos: fuck. I have the Revenant Wail longbow (gold rare with 1366 atk), didn't use any speed or power buffs but I still didn't come close to that damage. No where near it. Those power buffs must do a lot.

@superwristbands: Yeah they actually stack and multiply the damage for each one adding that to autonomy which boosts your damage even more and using Blast Arrows with Five Fold Furry and you are going to be putting out some SERIOUS damage.

This was my very first attempt to kill Death. I mean, I had run into him before several times but spent most of the fight trying to stay alive since when I seemed to try and put out damage it was so minimal I said "F this, I don’t even want to fight you anymore!" so I would either weather the storm, or just flee into the next room. This was the first time I engaged him and then after he would run away, I would travel back to the rift stone I was at last, get my pawns that didn’t make it, then come back and he would respond in the same spot. I repeated this process for a little over 2 hours before finally killing him. Not saying it’s the best strategy out there, just the one I used. Since I didn’t see a post about how to fight him, I thought I would share how I went about it. Nonetheless, thanks for all the responses! :)

They really need to nerf the blast arrows...I can do something very similar to Death using my MA...but definitely not as effective. I find that a single item making any particular vocation that over powered beyond what any other can do is at it's base an imbalance, and at it's worst, a glitch.

A lot of people love their blast arrows, but I believe they were meant to be used one at a time, not five at a time, that much at least should be repaired.
