    Fallout: New Vegas seems to be getting a whole lot of mixed feelings. What do you guys think about it? Sound off!

    While immersive it lacks polish. Compelling gameplay though.

    Fallout New Vegas is literally the most visceral game I've ever played. All in all, this rip-roaring gritty adventure takes the cake with its immersive gameplay and realistic physics. There's a lot of depth here, and fans of the genre will definitely want to give this a look for the replay value alone. The game isn't without it's flaws however; hit detection and tree-making middleware remain problematic. Flaws aside, I loved the combat and the game's high production value. When all is said and done, Fallout New Vegas is definitely worth a look (or at least a rental).  83.5.

    Love it. There are the same annoyances as with Fallout 3 and some bugs, but the amount of fun I'm having with it makes up for it.

    @Eristocrat: True, a bit of a mixed bag.  There just doesn't seem to be enough fun factor.

    Seriously though, I don't buy broken games.  I let it slide for MMOs, because the nature of the game means that there is always going to be some issues with a constantly changing world.
    For a console game to have have this level of bugs though is absolutely unacceptable.

    It's a fun game, but the bugs are fucking bullshit. Right now my game is broken, because whenever I enter the Strip it goes to a black screen after loading. I can't fast travel out of there either because I'm stuck in Gomorrah. My current save is at 20 hours while my last one is at 13 hours, and there is no way I'm doing 7 hours of stuff over again. Either they fix the bug or I'm not playing anymore.

    Thanks, Obsidian!

    I'm really enjoying it - more of exactly what I wanted which is loads of interesting crazy people to meet - lots of stuff to find, and exellent scripting and compelling ploting.
    Obviously I would love it if the game looked better etc but I will take this gameplay over any graphical polish anytime - Just Cause2 looked amazing a was a beautiful world imo but there wasn't the compulsion to keep exploring.  - I just can't think of any other game I am so depserate to get back to than this. - It is the best game format I have ever come across.
     Not the most polished but I haven't really had any bugs of note after 20odd hours gameplay but i'm not at The Strip yet which seems to be a big problem.
     - However what I dream about is FNV plotted and scripted by Obsidan but brought to life by the Red Dead Redemption team - That would be heaven!

    There's a lot to like here, but the experience is really marred by bugs and a lack of polish. Don't get me wrong, Fallout 3 was buggy too, but I never ran into anything that really impacted my enjoyment of the game. However, I almost immediately started hitting bugs in New Vegas that detracted from the fun. Here's just a sampling of things I've experienced:

    • Less than an hour into the game, there's a quest that ends with you driving the Powder Gang out of Goodsprings. So, I gathered with the other townsfolk outside of the saloon, the gang members spawn outside of town and start charging in. I seemingly eliminate all of the enemies but nothing happens. I then notice that there are actually two more enemy indicators. I start walking towards them, and I eventually discover two Powder Gangers that are frozen in place. They'll turn and look at me and say stuff, but they aren't moving and they aren't attacking me. That would be OK, but on top of that, I couldn't do any damage to them! Had to reload and repeat the quest to complete it.
    • The load times and frame rate get far worse the longer you play the game. The only solution I've been able to come up with is to clear the 360's system cache after every few hours of playing.
    • The frame rate can really crawl at times, to the point where the game will almost come to a full stop for about a second before picking up again.
    • The game has completely frozen up on three occasions.
    • Textures that NEVER load. It looks freaking terrible...
    • A few times I've had companions get automatically changed into the "hold position" mode, and then I've accidentally left them behind. This left me with no choice but to retrace my steps until I found them so that I could send them back to the Lucky 38 or tell them to start following me again.

    @Hourai:
    Did you finish the "Debt Collector" quest? I've heard that can make it impossible for you to enter the strip.

    @Chaser324:
    Yup, that was basically the last quest I did before the game bugged out on me. I killed the dude and then went inside Gomorrah to find Joana because my speech was high enough for something I thought would start a sidequest. I couldn't find her for some reason no matter what (weird), and then when I tried to exit Gomorrah it started doing the black screen thing. I really regret saving inside of the casino when I was looking for her.

    That's the issue then. From what I've read, it seems like killing that one guy makes it impossible for you to enter that portion of the strip.

    I'm so glad I got this on PC. With the fixed D3D9.dll, the FPS are always on 60FPS, and it has better graphics and control than the console versions. Patches arrive earlier and, of course, we have mods. So far, I haven't run into anything major or game-stopping. To be honest, the only known glitch I've seen is the one with Cheyenne's eyes popping out of their sockets. And once, just once, I got textures not loading when they should, but it got better 20 seconds afterwards.

    I hope you meant for this to be a summary of all that's wrong with games journalism because I thought it was really funny
