Final Fantasy XI starts the player off with access to six core jobs. These jobs included the warrior, monk, white mage, black mage, red mage and thief. After the player gained level 30 on any single job that player was able to obtain quest to unlock advance jobs. Those jobs include paladin, dark knight, beastmaster, ranger, bard, summoner, samurai, ninja, dragoon, blue mage, corsair, puppetmaster, dancer, and scholar. When an adventurer earns level 18 on any job, they are able to take on a quest to earn a "support job". A support job must be leveled independently of an adventurer's main job, but can be used to support the main job. A support job will always be half the level of the main job (for example: a warrior level 30, with a monk level 30 can set monk as their support job and become a Warrior30 / Monk15).
Initial Jobs
The Warrior is a strong DPS job in Final Fantasy XI. They specialize in axe weapons and are very powerful when they use the support job ninja. Dual wielding axes help warriors do a good amount of DPS.
The Monk job is another strong DPS class. They are fully hand to hand combat job. Adding STR and ACC helps the monk hit and do high DPS to enemies.
The White Mage is the one of the main healing jobs in Final Fantasy XI. They have the highest spells and with lots of MND there healing is the best. Raising the dead is also a highly sought after trait for the White Mage. With their Raise III ability they can resurrect any player that has fallen on the battle field and help reduce the exp penalty that was placed on the player for dieing.
The Black Mage is the damage dealing mage job. Using dark and elemental magic the black mages are all about using high magic skills to do huge amount of damage to mobs.
The Red Mage is one of the most popular healing jobs in FFXI. Red mages can do wonders when it comes to mp regen. With their refresh ability they are able to mp regen all of the mp based jobs in the party. That ability helps cut down on the down time between mob pulls and give the party more exp per hour then having to rest after each mob pull.
The Thief job is damage dealing job. Using their sneak attack (SA) ability, they deal a huge critical damage when striking the mob from behind. When in combination with a weapon skill the damage is very high. The thief job also gets an ability called trick attack at level 30. Trick attack (TA) is used when the thief is behind any player. The hate generated from that hit is transferred to the player the thief was behind. So ideally you want the TA move to deal a high damage number for the biggest effect. This move can be performed in sequence with sneak attack to form an ability called sneak attack trick attack of SATA. This move deals more critical damage to the mob resulting in a high damage hit. However, like mentioned above for the trick attack to have effect the player must be behind another player and for sneak attack to work the player would need to be behind the mob. Also the ability of flee which increase your players movement for 30 seconds is sought after when subjobing the thief. Treasure Hunter ability is sought after when farming, which increases the drop rate of items on mobs.
Extra Jobs
The following jobs are available to players after completing certain quests at level 30 or beyond.
Paladin
The main tanking class in Vana'diel, Paladins are blessed with naturally high Vitality, making their ability to take damage much more viable than that of other front line jobs like Warrior or Monk. Paladins also have a selection of white magic at their disposal, allowing themselves to cast Cure spells to keep themselves alive, as well as retain hate on the monster, so only the Paladin gets attacked.
Dark Knight
Pretty much the opposite of Paladins, Dark Knights are very strong damage dealers, who are very proficient using either Scythes or Great Swords. Dark Knights also have a variety of Black Magic which also contribute to their damage output, but they also can obtain "Absorb" type magic, which allow Dark Knights to drain out certain attributes from their foes, and use it against them.
Beastmaster
The main solo class of FINAL FANTASY XI, Beastmasters have the ability to charm monsters, and use them to fight alongside them against others.
Bard
Quite possibly the most desired job currently in the endgame community of FINAL FANTASY XI, Bards have the ability to perform musical spells to provide support to party members (such as Attack , Speed , etc.), and also remove and put on supportive and detrimental status effects on enemies.
Ranger
The ranged attack masters of Vana'diel, Rangers are proficient with the arts of Marksmanship and Archery. The weapons you could expect to see Rangers with are Crossbows, Bow, and Guns.
Chocobos are the equivalent to mounts in popular MMORPGs. Chocobos are giant birds that are unable to fly. They have giant legs however, that can transport you at very high speeds. Elvaans in particular were some of the first to tame and use as a form of transportation.
Ferries in Final Fantasy XI are used as huge cargo ships to transport goods across the seas of Vana'diel. Adventures can ride on these ferries if they plan on visiting another continent. Ferries are powered by combustion engines that were made in Bastok. Adventures are also attracted to these ferries because of the good fishing a person can do while riding them. However, sometimes players can catch rare monsters that can attack them or the other players aboard the ship.
Airships are one of the fastest transportation methods in Vana'diel. These giant airships are powered by crystals and were built by Cid one of the most genius engineers to date. Airships have there main hub in the Duchy of Jeuno. They fly to each nation San d'Oria, Windurst and Bastok. Also flights to the Island Kazham are available. It cost 500,000 gil or does a quest to gain an airship license however a player must be rank 5 before they are able to start the quest. Players can get a license to ride the Kazham airship after doing a quest.
Teleportation is the fastest way to travel. However this transportation method is limited to white mages that have access to specific magic spells. White mages are able to teleport themselves or anyone in their party. However, white mages can only teleport to certain teleportation crystals. If players want to have a white mage teleport them to these teleport crystals a player must first touch that teleport crystal to gain a key item that gives them access to that teleportation crystal.
This expansion added a new story line along with tons of new areas for people to venture in.
This expansion is also required for all US versions of the game, but it was released together with Final Fantasy XI in the US.

Server
Currently there are 32 servers that average about 2-3k players on at any given time. At peak times and holidays servers can have as many as 4-5k people on at any given time. Each server is named after a summon or character that appears in the Final Fantasy Franchise canon.
Since the formation what Square Enix calls the "Special Task Force", they have been banning on average 3000 accounts a month. They have removed billions of Gil, which is keeping the game economy more stable. However due to Auction House manipulation some items are way inflated. Fishing bots numbers are down and level restrictions have been placed on fishers so that new accounts can't pull in good yields.
Account stealing with use of Trojan horses has been on the rise. Account stealers have been gaining access to players account, then either moving their character to another server, or stealing all of their items and money to sell for real money. Square Enix was slow to act in the beginning, but due to player concerns and a huge number of accounts being hijacked Square Enix have been developing tools to restore a player to a previous time if necessary.
Square Enix has been one of the most outspoken and best force to combat MMORPG RMT. Cheating is completely down on FFXI, but since RMTers just make new accounts it will be a battle for a long time.

Join over 500,000 people from across the globe in the world of Vana'diel for your very own Final Fantasy adventure!
Overview
Final Fantasy XI is the first Final Fantasy game to be fully online. Players create their own character to battle against the forces of evil in the world of Vana'diel. Adventures first choose one of three nations to start in; the Kingdom of San d'Oria, the Republic of Bastok and the Federation of Windurst. Once placed in your nation adventures can begin questing, leveling up their jobs, partake in missions, begin crafting, or whatever social things they want to. Currently there are over 500,000 active subscribers around the world. The game is also the first MMORPG to incorporate cross platform play. Players on the Xbox 360, PC or the Playstation 2/3 can all adventure together on the same worlds. Another first for the MMO genre is the ability for Americans, Japanese, British, French, and German players to coexist on the same server. The use of an auto-translation features gives the adventure the ability to communicate in a variety of languages like Japanese, English, French and German.Final Fantasy XI starts the player off with access to six core jobs. These jobs included the warrior, monk, white mage, black mage, red mage and thief. After the player gained level 30 on any single job that player was able to obtain quest to unlock advance jobs. Playable Races
Hume
Humes originated in the Bastok regions and they have grown to populate much of Vana’diel. Overall Humes have a good balance of every job and abilities. Having a balance of intelligence and other high skill levels they make the perfect race to play any job in the game. Bastok gives its credits to the Humes for creating what it is today.Elvaan
Coming from San d’Oria, the Elvaan are proud warriors. Elvaan are known for being very tall and slender along with having very pointy ears. Excellent swordsmen this gives the Elvaan the advantage when it comes to combat and strength. Elvaan also have a high mind trait that makes them good healers. They are a prideful race and nothing will break them of that. Most Elvaan stay within San d’Oria and keep away from the outside business world.Tarutaru
Tarutaru
The smallest of the races the Tarutaru are the most skilled race when it comes to magic. They come from the nation of Windurst. They train very hard to become masters of the magical arts. Studying around the world gives them a very high intelligent along with a strong mind they are able to wield powerful magic. Tarutarus are the best race when it comes to black or white magic. After the destruction of Windurst during the Crystal War they rebuilt Windurst with the helping hand of the Mithra in which they have gained a good relationship with and who also call Windurst their home.Galka
The Galka are the one most powerful race. They are given high strength and high hit points which they use to slay enemies. Galka come from the Altepa Desert of Zepwellwhich is located to the southwest o Quon continent. However that city fell from an attack from the giant ant creatures over six hundred years ago. Now living in Bastok they have been excellent miners they have helped the Humes in building up that nation, though some Galka dislike the Humes. Also you can play as a male player.Mithra
The Mithra live alongside the Tarutaru in the nation of Windurst. Mostly only a female race, players are only allowed to choose to play as a female character. Male Mithras do exist, but are extremely rare. Mithras have a very high hearing ability and have long tails which give them a good sense of balance resulting in high dexterity and agility. They are an excellent race to play as if you are a Thief or Ranger. While very energetic, high curiosity and causing playful mischief the Mithra share a strong attitude of peace and prosperity which they display with the nation of Windurst.Initial Jobs

The Warrior is a strong DPS job in Final Fantasy XI. They specialize in axe weapons and are very powerful when they use the support job ninja. Dual wielding axes help warriors do a good amount of DPS.
