An Incredibly Well Written Third Person Shooter MMO hiding in a Battle Royal Launcher
Fortnite Save the World is surprisingly funny and well written with memorable characters that make me want to progress through the story. All of the mainline quests have fully voice acted lines; there's no cutscenes but they do talk before, after and during quest objectives. Events have fully voice acted dialog as well, with new characters and story elements that get me excited to come back. None of the microtransations have effected me in game with every item I use being granted through gift lootboxs and events. That being said they do exist and if that gets you rifted then go ahead. You can also earn the premium currency through side quests, daily missions and special timed missions. One daily mission gives you 50 V-bucks, the equivalent of one standard loot box. After a recent update, all randomness from a lootbox is now visible before you purchase, meaning you can see what you get before you buy it. These boxes replaced the old ones and reset once a day.
The mission structure builds the further you get along with more mission types being added the farther you get. Events also lead to new missions and mission types to vary gameplay. Gunplay is the same as the Battle Royal but with new guns that are more powerful and upgradable to combat the husks. Heroes have special powers like double jumps and a Rienheart-esque shield bash, which vary combat from hero to hero in a way that rewards having multiple hero units.
Given that this is supposed to be free to play by the end of the year, I do hope more people join me in this game. A 40 dollar buy-in is a bit steep to most people, but with all of the content updates, it's worth it. If you play Fortnite Battle Royal, 40 dollars is also worth the revolving influx of v-bucks. There's a lot of content here if you're looking for an mmo third person shooter, but if you're a bit weary, get it when it's half price or wait until it's ftp.
I paid 20 dollars when it was half off and have had a lifetime total of 200 dollars worth of v-bucks gained from playing Fortnite Save the World, playing it for less than a year.
