Currently there's some crossover with the old N-Gage platform and the new N-Gage platform with the same name (aka N-Gage 2.0 / N-Gage Next Gen / N-Gage Mobile Platform Application).
The new service isn't just some silly java-based cell phone gaming service and the games available on the platform range from updated versions of previous N-Gage titles (One, Mile High Pinball, Snakes) to platform-exclusive sequels (Asphalt 3 and 4, System Rush Evolution) to other unique and fairly advanced titles (Metal Gear Solid Mobile, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Prince of Persia).
For a comparison, the service is comparable to the XBL/PSN/or a more restricted iPhone App Store. There's no open development, there's only a singular source for purchasing games, and the games themselves don't hook into the symbian api (just the proprietary n-gage sdk apis).
