Does online coop work?

After playing some of the original Magicka and loving Helldivers, I am pretty sold on Magicka 2. But does the online coop work right now? (I am on PS4)

When Helldivers originally launched joining up with friends was a bit of a headache, so I am concerned.

My experience has been pretty solid with random 4 player co-op thus far (on PS4). Haven't tried inviting anyone from my friends list to play, yet so I can't speak to that.
