Yellow game cases?

I have a few 3DS games, like New Super Mario Bros. 2 and Super Mario Maker that come in yellow cases as opposed to the white ones.

Does anyone know what significance that change has? Super Mario 3D Land comes in white, so it's not used for Mario games exclusively it seems.
I couldn't find anything on search engines but replacement cases for individual cartridges.

Maybe some of you know or have an idea?

They were made to specifically annoy Scott the Woz.

the playdate is the ultimate yellow game case

nsmb 2 probably used it because the name of the game was money

smm probably used it because the name of the game was construction, thus the yellow

it's just weird that they'd do that for those two titles
