70s R&B/Soul (first thread)

Hello Giantbombers,

I'm new to forums in general, I've always been a lurker on them but I've never posted. Without further adieu:

I collect vinyls and I've mostly stuck to older singers like Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Etc.

I've always liked soul music but an extremely specific kind:

Straight up, if you ain't listening to Marvin Gaye, then what the F, son.

So yeah, sounds like you'd be into some Marvin Gaye, or Teddie Pendergrass. If you want something slightly more funky, Curtis Mayfield or The Commodores. Something a little more rhythm & blues, Wilson Pickett or Otis Redding.

this isn't 70's, but IMO otis blue is the alpha and the omega.

edit: if we're talking 70s soul, i hope to god you're familiar with little stevie's work through that decade.
