He died in a plane crash. I can't imagine what James Cameron is feeling right now since he collaborated with him with almost every movie he has done with Aliens, Terminator 1-2, Titanic and Avatar.
Avatar and Titanic composer James Horner has died
It's a real shame. His more recent work didn't do much for me but he's done some classic scores. I particularly like Aliens, Apollo 13, the Star Treks (best part of 3), Titanic, Rocketeer, Enemy at the Gates, and Mask of Zorro.
It feels like film composers like he, Willaims, and Goldsmith are a dying breed. I can't put my finger on it but it just seems like newer composers have a different feel.

yeah that's an error in the OP, he did a lot of Cameron's films, but not the 2 Terminators
Oh man. I still listen to the Bicentennial Man soundtrack from time to time. He's on the Mount Rushmore of film composers for sure.
