So Jeff mentioned on the podcast how he gets a 20 voucher from Amazon when buying from them... can someone tell me how this works? I would Google it but I' not even sure how to word what I'm looking for. I'm also curious if this works internationally... Australian's are getting around $1.07 for US$1 right now so I wanna get a few orders in. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Can someone explain Jeff's Amazon deal thing?
It's not a special promotion, it's just a thing that happens with some games. It's pretty common. Find games on amazon.com, and you'll see if they offer this among their preorder bonuses. It's most common on preorders, uncommon on released games.
I've got an Amazon question and I figure I'll ask it here instead of creating a new thread. If I preorder a game off Amazon.com, or more likely Amazon.ca since I'm in Canada, does the game ship so it'll get to me on the day of release or does it ship on the day its released and I don't get it for a few days later?
For any game you are thinking of pre-ordering, check the Amazon page to see whether there is a promo. The last two games I bought came with $20 vouchers. First one had to be another video game (or video game-related product), while my last one was off of almost anything on Amazon (aside from video rentals, music downloads, etc.). Both of mine came with very early expiration dates though - both had to be used before the end of this month.
@Omega: When I use Amazon in Canada I usually get a game a week after the game's release. At least with Gamestop, I can order online and get it on street date. I don't like using them but I like getting games day of release.
@RockinKemosabe: Yeah, that's what I thought. I didn't expect Gamestop to be the retailer that gets games shipped and delivered by the street date. I guess if I ever buy a game online I'll get it from gamestop. Still, nothing beats old fashioned walking into a store and getting the game yourself. Thanks for the info.

Do you guys in the great white north have a "release day delivery" option? We have that here in the US, but Amazon doesn't really promote it. It's a crazy deal too - for 99 cents the game is not just shipped but delivered on its release date.

I dunno, I don't use Amazon too often. But if it exists I'll be sure to check that box if I preorder Skyrim or something else down the road. It does sound like a pretty good deal.
@Shirogane: I can see where you're coming from ... but if I go the cheapest shipping AND get $20 off my next game, it is worth it. eBay is usually the first place I go though....
Scratch that -- Skyrim on Xbox 360 US$59.99 (AU$56.11) ... Shipping US$16 for 8 - 16 business day delivery, US$24 for 2 - 5 day. So between US$75 - US$85. Forget it. I can buy it local cheaper.
BUT -- Amazon.co.uk have free shipping to Australia for orders over £25. Skyrim is £38.90 (AU$58.50) with free shipping. That's pretty good really.
Thanks for your help though everyone. Sorry if my over analysis is boring haha

Mmm, $20 is pretty much how much the cheapest shipping costs, but, if you're ordering multiple items, or certain items, it is totally worth it. Amazon has some good prices, it just depends on what you're getting really, sometimes it evens out, other times it doesn't.

You have to pay for express shipping to get it on release day on Amazon. For Gamestop it's free.
Amazon will sometimes give you a gift card for preordering, equivalent to Gamestop's incentive, but way better. Batman recently gave you $10 in Amazon credit for preordering, instead of those stupid costumes I doubt anyone would actually wear for more than half an hour.
I get my games from Amazon for that very reason, the $20 credit I almost always get for preordering from them.
A preorder deal - usually on big games that companies are competing for preorders on. Got $10 on Batman, put it towards Skyrim which I'm getting another $10 on. Combined with .99 cent release day shipping you really can't beat Amazon, though other online retailers are stepping it up.
Between the preorder deals, random lightning deals on games, and fairly quick price drops, I don't think I've paid $60 for a game in a long time. If you look you can usually find some cheaper way to get a game within the first couple of months after it comes out, if not on release.
@Omega: Dunno if I saw this mentioned, and it probably doesn't apply to Canada, but in the US, they clearly label some games as having Release Date Shipping available. For a fee (free with Prime), it's on your doorstep the day it's released. But if a game isn't marked as having that, it's not an option.
