This reminds me of that one Cowboy Bebop episode where they go into a shop, looking for a guy who knows how to play an old... DVD or Betamax something? And Spike kicks something and it messes up.

...carry on!

I have DDS-4 Tapes.

Newer tape drives go to 2.5 TB. One cartridge of which costs $30.

The drives for those (the super high-capacity ones, not the ones I have), however, cost in the thousands. Which is why I don't have one for storing my everything ever.

I love that episode. They randomly get a Betamax cassette delivered to them, so they have to track down a player. When they do find a guy with one, the picture isn't clear, so he tries fixing it by kicking it, which just gets them kicked out. So then they have to raid that abandoned museum and grab the VHS player by mistake.

Keep in mind these are only good for archive purposes, not good for repeated uses.

If by "not good for repeated uses" you mean "rated for 2,000+ full-tape write operations", then yeah.

That's nothing, I have 2 Reel-To-Reel players in my basement. Admittedly, I don't have any tapes to go with them.
