Russia look better and better to Hulk every day. Russia (CNS) - Emo kids may have more to get upset about. A new law in Russia could actually make being an emo kid illegal. Legislation is currently formulating that would regulate emo Web sites and ban emo/goth clothing in schools and government buildings. Emo, which is short for 'emotional,' is defined by Merriam-Webster as "a style of rock music influenced by punk rock and featuring introspective and emotionally fraught lyrics." The emo genre has seeped into the mainstream in current years, with bands like Jimmy Eat World and Dashboard Confessional gaining popularity. The legislation, which was presented at a State Durma hearing last month, was driven by the idea that the angst-ridden music and clothing are "dangerous teen trends" and encourage depression and even suicide. The Guardian reports that emo kids were described as teens with facial piercings, dark clothing and hair fringes that "cover half the face." Emo kids aren't just going to sit and take this - according to NME.com, there were "mass protests by Russian emo kids" over the weekend. Russian emo band MAIO's Dmitry Gilevich backed the angry teens, saying "Expressing psychological emotions is not forbidden by law." Of course, if that changes, he may want to take his band somewhere else.
