Well has it? Don't give me Family Guy or Chuck as an example for yes.  Family Guy only returned because of DVD sales and high ratings in syndication brought that back. Chuck was brought back due to NBC getting flooded with $5 Footlongs from Subway.
I use to sign a ton of them back in the day (like a year ago) but is Veronica Mars still canceled ?  Is Pete Rose allowed to be in the Baseball Hall of Fame ?  Did I ever get to purchase a copy of Mother 3 ?
So has there been a documented case of an online petition working if so prove it.

Well, there was a petition to bring Daria out on DVD that I signed. It's scheduled for release soon, I believe. Not sure if it was the petition, but at least we get the DVDs.

Yeah, that goes the same with family guy. DVD sales, it's how it goes done. That goes for a lot of adult swim shows, like venture brothers.

Yeah that's what Joss said on the commentary track of the collector's edition. DVD sales made that movie possible.

in my town a locally filmed TV show was able to gain interest for being picked up on a new channel(comcast was dropping local low-frequency channels), mostly through forum support and internet petitions.

What brought Family Guy back after its first cancellation? It was either a petition or just the really good ratings on the Adult Swim re-runs.

but it depends. if youre talking about TV and stuff, maybe. business? most likely. petty complaints? most likely never. also depends on the scale of the intended audience.

There was this one a while ago where me and some friends got about a couple thousand signatures to cancel dedicated servers for one of the Call of Duty games but I don't think it worked. So for me at least I would have to say that no...it does not.

A facebook group got Rage Against The Machine to number 1 for Christmas in the UK...

Not really a petition, but still a large movement amongst internet-goers.
