Probably not a good idea
I've got these 3-year-old illegal Fireworks. Should I light them off?
I have three Roman Candles, and a Black Cat pre-loaded Mortar for sure, maybe more. They are illegal because pretty much every type of firework that isn't a sparkler is illegal here. I don't trust fireworks in the first place, but 3 year old ones that have been kept in a closet, mannn.
" you should launch them sometime. i don't really think they will go off since they are old. i say that it's idiots that don't know how to use them, make stuff illegal. "Yeah, idiots and dry weather. I would go buy some extra fuse to get a good head start, but if it doesn't go off, I'll just blame the neighbors.
Also: " Don't use old fireworks unless they've been kept safe
Fireworks can keep well for years as long as they're kept in a cool, dry place and aren't constantly being handled.. Any jostling or handing that a firework may have gone through in the course of a year can cause powder to leak, resulting in air pockets in the tubes. These air pockets can act as tiny combustion chambers and cause an unexpected explosion." ( http://www.pyrouniverse.com/safety.htm )
But then again, this is coming from a site that has instructions like "only use when parents are present" and "watch from 75ft. away" ... you know, dumb and unfun stuff. :)
Not because they're illegal, but because I've had first hand experience with lighting old fireworks, and IT DOESN'T TURN OUT WELL, or at least it didn't for me. I lit a strip or two of those little ones that sound like machine guns and look like dynamite, and they were 5 years old. Instantly (and I MEAN instantly) blew up in my hand. Wasn't fuse length either, it was 4 or 5 inches. Only got some pretty minor burns, could have been worse had that been something else.
GO FOR IT! What's the worst that could happen?
Are you worried about the legal ramifications? the age? what?
If its the age then there is no worry since fireworks use blackpower combinations and not TNT their age really doesn't matter at most they wont work. As for legality? as long as you do it in a secrective area then you wont get in trouble and even if you did its not like they would fine you just likely warn you and confiscate the fireworks.
