I would pay a billion dollars to see that movie ( Which is based off the book by Greg Sestero)You want proof here
James Franco is playing Tommy Wiseau in The Room documentary
I thought it's going to be a movie about the making of The Room, like Hitchcock being about the making of Psycho.
Doesn't that make it a docu-drama like The Social Network?
Yes. It is based on a book that is based on the making of The Room.
Never heard of that movie or its creator, but I'm gonna watch it tonight because Seth Rogen totally sold me on it in that article:
“I saw it like 10 years for the first time, like right when it came out. I had just moved to LA and there would be billboards for it and ads and stuff like that. I remember I saw it with Jonah Hill actually, randomly, and then we became obsessed with it, like it was the greatest f*cking thing we had ever seen.”
What you can’t ignore is that there’s tons of bad movies that aren’t watchable and that no one watches over and over and over again. So there is something that you kind of have to give credit to. Because of all the sh*tty movies, he made one that people still watch ten years later. People love it, so there’s obviously something — no effort of the guy who made it — but there’s something oddly brilliant about it in a way.”
I must see that shit!
Anyway, I like Franco but he kind of sucks in his serious movies, I dunno, I don't feel him. He's good when he's with the funny bunch, which is enough for me. So I won't be watching this "documentary," unless I enjoy The Room tonight.
I can see it now....
"Oh hi Jonah Hill."
"Where's Seth? We need to talk some more about Pineapple Express 2, I got some ideas."
scene for scene remake with James Franco as the only recast "actor". bring everyone else back. art will be made.
I must see that shit!

Oh you have NO idea. You will "enjoy" the room. It is the funniest movie I have ever seen. Just bear in mind it isn't actually a comedy and it is supposed to be taken seriously. I can feel from the guy who made it Tommy Wiseau because he actually wanted to make a real movie that was genuinely good... he just wasn't up to the task, and now he has to advertise his movie by basically selling it based on how shitty it is. That really does have to tear a guy up on the inside. You could argue "hey he gets paid" but the joke is Wiseau is actually rich to begin with so literally never needed the money, he actually self funded it even, the movie was purely a passion project for him.
why is this a thing? I mean ive seen the room, and yeah its so bad its funny, but come on. Stop beating that poor horse into the ground!
@stoodspoon: I'm 13 minutes into this movie and I have to thank you for this thread, this piece of work is a piece of work. I'm having the weirdest "WHAT??" giggles right now, this is a unique experience. Truly.
@karkarov: Totally man!
- Did you like last night?
- Yes I did.........
- Ha, ha, ha, ha.
/scene
@singingmenstrual: I'm about 38mins now. You can see how awkward everyone is all the time - its quite wonderful.
@leebmx: I really don't wanna spam this thread but I can't contain my emotions, I need to vent them - THIS SHIT IS CRAZY
This dude has got to be the worst kung fu drama actor in history, he does all the out of sync kung fu lip syncing without the actual kung fu, and he's brilliantly terrible at drama. I'm having such weird fucking laughs man, this is a riot.
Also, terrible sex scene every 10 minutes, that's the way to go! Dramas have like 3 sex scenes spread throughout, but this guy understands blue balls. I like how the sex scenes have more endings than Lord of the Rings, the camera can't decide whether to pan away or keep shooting, so it just circles around slowly.
@singingmenstrual: I kind of feel sorry for all the other actors in this, because the words they are forced to speak are so atrocious. No-one could make it work.
What makes it so weird is the way it is all shot in 35mm so looks very proffessional but everything else about it is utterly amateurish...
,,,,oh god, another painful sex scene, this time with his trousers on all the way through. They seem to have written a different slow-jam for every scene.
The guy playing Mark looks like his is being forced to act by someone point a gun at him from offstage. God this is bad, so bad.
@leebmx: The stream of sex scenes in that movie I think is what surprised me the most after finally watching the whole thing a couple of years ago, despite already seeing many funny scene compilations. The first half of the whole movie veers on being softcore porn they keep awkwardly cropping up so often...

I think he wanted it to be some sort of torrid love story about great passion and desire, but it just comes over a bit creepy. My overiding feeling is of complete pity for the actors. Apparently filming took 6 months, god knows how they took it.
Perfect fit.
Right?! Franco may be making the second dumbest film on Earth.
For anyone who doesn't know who Tommy is, this should give you duders an indication.
"Can I geet a doozen red rosess please, Seth?"
"Oh hey James, I didn't know it was you!"
"Here you go, hi doggy, keep the change!"
"You're my favorite customer!"
What sort of spiral of madness must one descend to properly channel Tommy Wiseau?
One can probe the very depths of hell but they still won't be able to understand whatever the fuck goes on in Tommy's head.
I read a few excerpts from The Disaster Artist and they nearly made me cry.
Greg Sestero is a god among men, even if I don't quite believe all of his stories. He tells them well, though, and that's what matters to me.
Man, I remember when my friends and I discovered The Room. It was so long ago now; I don't even talk to most of those people anymore. We were obsessed with that movie for like an entire year.
You guys just now discovering it should check out The House That Drips Blood on Alex.
Since I ctrl+F'd and didn't find mention that there's a RiffTrax for it... There's a RiffTrax for it. (also available through a veritable torrent of other means)
Hah hah hah, I wanted to read the book but I think I will wait for the movie now.
Edit: I just saw that Tom Bissell co-wrote the book, weird!

The rifftrax is pretty great. The only way to watch it.

the ONLY way to watch it is in a room with 50-100 other people all loudly riffing on it and tossing spoons in the general vicinity of (not at) the screen :')
chanting GO GO GO GO during the panning golden gate bridge shots was amazing
wait? there was a theatrical run? I don't believe that. I just film hard to swallow, maybe limited release to hopes to get into shows possibly..... I always thought it was a Skinamax late night along with Bikini Car Wash and films staring Don Most like Stewardess School.
there's theaters where they show it regularly at midnight. used to be one in SF but sadly it closed. :(
If you are a fan of the movie, I highly recommend you read the documentary. The movie only scratches the surface of how batshit insane Tommy Wiseau really is. You also learn how Tommy made enough money to buy a vanity project like The Room. It's a bit on the expensive side, but it was written by Greg Sestero (who played Mark in the movie) who is trying to make a living off of being an author and doing nation-wide tours with Tommy with screenings of The Room... so give him a little love and buy this amazing book:

Well, that's not difficult to do. No, I was watching the Seth Rogan clip and he mentioned it was released initially in theaters.... maybe some smaller theaters? Nothing wide? Just checking IMDB, and wondering how small is this release?
