Just to clarify it doesnt need to have mutants or stuff like that. Im more searching for the shocking aspect that Tokyo Ghoul had. Gore, insanity, on the edge action, and a tragic story. But the main aspect im looking for is insanity/mental instability

TG is a masterpiece... best manga I've read since Berserk. I recommend Berserk, Ajin, Parayste, and Death Note.

Watch Parasyte, it's sort of like that. I liked the anime much more than the Tokyo Ghoul anime but the manga is not even comparable. TG' in manga form is a masterpiece IMO

I'm with Protagonist's recommendation on Death Note. I also suggest Psycho-Pass for answering the what-its of living in a world where a machine/the government determines your likelihood to commit crimes (and can murder you for it), and Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood for giving viewers a glimpse of what it's like to play God.

@boss_kowbel: watched both death note and fma. Death note was really good, but fma was too shounen for my taste

Sounds like you need to look into watching Parasyte and/or Psycho-Pass.

Attack on Titan is long and is really bringing the gore aspect back into the light in anime. If you haven't seen or read Claymore, you may want to check that out as well. Elfen Lied has some gnarly shit in it too, might be worth checking out.

*edited out witchblade, wasn't the one i was thinking of

It's a pretty apt comparison. Only applies to the manga though

So, you're basically looking for dark seinen stuff? You should take a look at Zetman. It's pretty dark and there are some mentally fucked up people in it. It has a somewhat similar "mutant race living amongst humans" thing going on, as well. You might also check out Vagabond. Reminds me a little of Berserk in some ways, although it's a very different setting and story. And since I mentioned it... If you haven't already, read Berserk. Read it, then be sad that the author is going to die before he manages to finish it. Actually, it's beginning to look like Zetman and Vagabond could end up going into that same horrible hole, but it's hard to say at this point.
