What do you guys think of the 80s/ the media produced in them. I find it's either love or hate. Discuss!

(Am I right in saying this is not youtube spam as there is valid discussion?)

I don't generally like things from the 80s. Except for some of the action movies for their sheer stupidity :D

There were some legitimately good movies as well, like Raging Bull (was that the 80s?) and Once Upon A Time In America.

Loved/love the 80s.  But I came of age during that decade, so I'm biased.

Watching St Elmo's Fire or Breakfast Club brings a tear to my eye.

The 80's were great. John Hughes at his finest. Without the 80s Hollywood wouldn't have shit to remake.

Can't speak for the 80's, but the 90's sucked for sure.. the best thing to come out of the 90's were a few excellent video games..

I was born just as the 80's were coming to an end and i still sometimes wish i could have experienced them myself.

I love the music and most of the movies of that decade.

The 80s produced me, that makes it instantly the most awesome of decades.

Ronald Reagan and the crack epidemic....what a wonderful time!

Movies were alright though, the Thing came out in 82' right?

@Eric_Buck You were born in the 90s, weren't you? The 80s had their bad points, but they were pretty awesome.

Vice City... yeah that's about it.

MOTHER FUCKING EIGHTIES WAS THE SHIT. I should have been born in the 70's so I could enjoy them properly.

Motherfucking A-Team, Metallica, Sylvester Stallone, women with lower expectations, hair, Whitesnake. EVERYTHING ABOUT THE EIGHTIES WERE THE SHIT. There was not a single disappointment to be had. I should have experienced it myself. I was made for the 80's. Durand Durand. Man, you get the point. Shit was bangin like Reagan during the 80's.

Best decade of all time for me, I will always remember the 80s, don't remember the 90s too much but I do remember the first half of the 90s being better than the last half.

Can't speak for it (wasn't born yet), but judging from the comments and from my own feelings, the decade you grew up in is usually the one remember most fondly. So that would be the 90s for me.

  • Terminator
And many more, I'm sure.

In 20 years you will think the 2010's sucked too.

Does that make me cool for disliking the 2010's before it's popular :) I'm also not holding my breath for enjoying the 2020's. Any year this dedicated to "reality" TV & it's "celebrities" should be hit by a meteor and wiped out.

Ghostbusters, Die Hard, Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Smiths.

The 80s were great!

I fully enjoy how strangely awesome the 80's were, especially good ol' PSAs.

This PSA freaked the crap out of me when I was a kid.

Annnnnd this...

I still miss the fashion the girls at school wore in the 80's: frilly little skirts with spandex underneath. It was great hitting puberty right around that time.

Way better music than any time since (other than Phish, who actually formed in the '80's too)...though obviously not as good as the 50's - 70's.

Sonic Youth, Husker Du, the Replacements, Minutemen, Black Flag, Prince...the goddamn Dead were still out there giving 'er.

Plus the '80's were when vidja games finally became a popular household form of entertainment because of a little box called the NES.

Nah man, you can knock the '90s and the 2000's all you want, but the '80's were fucking cool.
