Been having this argument with this guy for quite some time about whether salad goes better with a thick, creamy dressing or a light, watery dressing.

He says thick because you get more flavor out of it, but I say light is better because it spreads out among all the pieces.

What do you guys think?

Thick or light? Those are the choices?
What about Ceaser, Ranch, Greek, Italian, Russian, or Vinagrette

The argument isn't about which specific one is better, its about the type of dressing.

They aren't consistencies.

None at all because I'm not fat.

Fat people don't eat salad with dressing, they eat cake, and 50 hotdogs.

Why can't you edit a post on the mobile site!?!

Anyway I don't think about a dressing based on thick or light. I pick on a kind like Red Wine Vinagrette which does happens to be light. Thick or light I mix the salad in the bowl and that spreads out the dressing.

Have you not seen Americans dump ranch on basically a head of iceberg lettuce? it is hypergross.

I must be missing out on this frivolity.

Both. I traditionally love 1000 island, and there is a Thai dressing(pretty simular) I have been using. But I like oil and vinigar, and would like to explore more, especially centered around olive oil.

Eating salads doesn't make you thin. Most American salads are filled with fattening items. Cheese, croutons, some meats, and the fattening dressing. All fattening.

In my first post I was going to ask who picks dressing because of its thickness instead of flavor. I would have changed the wording but I can't edit after I accidently hit submit.

@tfsteefs: I'm not fat either but a nice balsamic vinaigrette never killed anyone.  Ranch dressing on the other hand makes me nauseous.

Light, because I find most creamy dressings just cover the taste of the vegetables. Although I do like Russian.

I like light dressings, simple stuff like olive oil + balsamic vinegar.

really depends on what i'm eating it with/how i feel, but most of the time i'll go olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and grainy mustard. dunno what consistency that counts as. probably light.

You can have a *light* dressing with big flavours. And there is no reason big flavours have to be bad fatty things.

Light dressing because its not overbearing compared to heavy dressing.  It also works better because heavy dressings taste like they should go with something that has high carbs even though that sounds pretty disgusting....

It all depends on the ingredients of the salad and how they've been cut. If you have chunks of meat or fish, a creamy dressing will coat them better.

Well, my favourite is Bleu cheese and that'd probably qualify as thick.

Light dressings tend to be more vinegar based, and I'm not vinegar's hugest fan. I haven't found a light dressing yet that isn't too tart for my tastes.

I like Blue Cheese dressing best, so if that's "thick" then that's my answer.

I like Balsamic Vinegar and Red Wine Vinegar. So I guess light. I hate creamy, gives me stomach problems.
