What I am talking about is, does he become a super wizard, none of this "but what do I do" "But I can't do this". At the minute sure hes a wizard but I never get the sense of how great this guy is, I have just finished goblet of fire and for a legend, he is just a normal guy, who needs ALOT of help. I was hoping to see a story of Harry LEARNING to become a badass, and then later on I want him to BE A badass, a superhero if you will.

Does this ever happen at all? Again without spoilers of course, or is he always just a 'school boy'?

Thanks guys.

I've only been watching the movies and deathly hallows part 2 seems to be the last movie.   So far he's still a weak young wizard who needs other people's help to fight his battles.

Never a superhero. He has definite growth, both as a person and a wizard, but he never becomes Dumbledore or anything like that.

No, he stays an unlikeable milquetoast protagonist up till at least Goblet of Fire, which was when I stopped reading.

No, he never becomes a super powerful badass wizard however he is a lot better during the seventh book when it comes to fighting etc. I think JK Rowling was trying to make a point by just making him a normal person skills wise.

Come on, did you really expect any "Badassery" to be in Harry Potter books?

I've only seen the movies, but the Aurors are pretty badass.

That April Fools thing about it this year looked surprisingly cool

no, i wouldn't think he becomes one. i can only see him become a badass if a different person writes, makes, the book and movie and turns him into one. other than that i don't think so.

From my memories of reading the last book when it came out (up until then he's a total puss), he steps his game up a bit, but in his own ineffectual way.

Man, I always thought Harry was a bit of a badss the way he talks back to teachers and stands up to Voldemort on numerous occasions.

He never gets super powerful or anything like that, but he was a smart-ass and I appreciate that.

@Silock: Well, if you've gotten as far as Goblet of FIre, I thought it should have been clear why Harry survived Voldemort when he was a baby, and that Harry doesn't think of himself as being great. It's like Zimbo said, Rowling was making a point by having Harry be pretty average; people blow things out of proportion.

That said, the others who said Harry become somewhat more confident near the end of the series are correct.

Which is kind of the point. The series always had that kind of "anyman can become a wizard" feel, which is why it's so popular with kids...Harry's not a badass, he's a regular dude thrust into an irregular situation and manages to come away from it learning some cool magic and meeting nice friends.

Idk, he uses a pretty bad ass spell on a certain... douche bag in the bathroom of the second to last book.

No, but he has good growth as a character. If you want a bad ass wizzard then you should just read for dumbledore, he reaks of greatness.

Of course they're magic babies! It would be foolish to assume otherwise.

Anyway, as far Harry becoming a badass goes, compared to the other characters in the series, no. Harry comes nowhere close to being as badass as either Sirius or Dumbledore or Snape, or even his dad for that matter. But like others have mentioned, it's kind of by design. He's not supposed to be a badass.
Having said that, I, by no means am saying to stop reading Books 5-7. In fact, I think that the last three are far better adventures than the first four in the series. Without a doubt. Also, PLEASE read the books before you watch the movies. The books are so much better.

In my opinion he becomes more of an unlikeable character as the books progress. He starts to make bad, irrational decisions and becomes extremely temperamental. The good news is that every other character in the series becomes pretty cool.

Harry Potter was never about being a badass. Dumbledor knows amazing magic but you only see him use it a few times and he never goes over the top he just does what he needs to. Voldermort is just cold and does what no one else would. Harry Potter is a story about a person being thrown into a situation where he has no control of his destiny and living with it through whatever means necessary.  Harry is brave but not a bad ass.

Nope, if anything he gets more whiny and pansy. If you think about it, it was pretty badass of him to fuck up Quirrel at age 11, that's like fighting a hardened Army vet and you have had half a year of casual martial arts training.

He grows up, learns to stand on his own two feet, and take on responsibilities, but I'm not quite sure what you mean by a "badass". By the end of the books he certainly isn't a wimp but if you're looking for him to turn into your stereotypical action hero that's not going to happen. The appeal of his character was never that he was a badass though, Harry was just a fairly normal guy put in an extraordinary situation, and while he's more than capable of doing what he needs to be able to do in life, as a normal guy often he needs help from others and often he feels unnerved in the face of great danger.

I noticed that when I rewatched the first film a couple weeks ago. Harry straight up murders a dude  and doesn't bat an eye at it.

@TheDudeOfGaming: You are foolish, with the friendship power you can complete anything! look at Ash Katchem! He befriends the pokemans before making them become his servant ;)

That is the reason why I can't stand the Harry Potter movies. Harry's always bitching that he doesn't want his friends to get hurt and blah bah blah friendship which is why he will never be a badass

The closest he has come to badass was in The Deathly Hallows really. Hopefully in Part 2, he rapes Hermione therefor cheating on Ginny.

The ending of the series is actually pretty lame its like harry accepts something a small percentage of people in the world can relate to *wink *wink
