    Overview

Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising is an MMORPG based on the mythology of ancient Rome. It was first announced in 2005 by Perpetual Entertainment. The game earned some accolades at E3 2006, including Best of Show awards from several MMORPG-focused websites. However, Gods and Heroes' development stalled as Perpetual shifted resources to Star Trek Online, and in 2007 the project was put on indefinite hold. Perpetual Entertainment closed in 2008 due to bankruptcy.

In 2010 Heatwave Interactive announced that it had picked up the game and eventually released it in June 2011. In January 2012, the game's subscription fees were eliminated, and Heatwave announced its intentions to move to a free-to-play model. The game has not been updated since, and has suffered extended periods of downtime.

In a post on the game's official site, a representative of Heatwave Entertainment declared "the game did not perform at launch and has never even come close to paying for the cost of bringing it to market, much less the cost of keeping a team developing it...".
