do they use different parts? do american employees have better attention to detail? im not a performer and im just looking for a good "intermediate" guitar, one that will last me a long time, is the extra $600 for the american worth it?

The MIA usually have better pickups, are made of higher quality wood, and are better made.  A MIM can be just as good of a guitar if you find the right one.  I suggest you go to a guitar center, sam ash, etc., and try the guitars out.

American's make guitars, Mexicans make tacos.  You decide who to buy your guitar from.
